This is Fruitycake. Around here in this Italy place where we live, they are packing up.

The tourist season has come to an end. Although I’m happy that I’ll get Fruity’s beach back soon, it is kind of with mixed emotions I see them close up shops.

It’s nice to be able to people watch and survey my neighborhood. It’s pretty neat to wonder where everyone comes from and what their names might be.

Even though we may just pass each other, every second is a second to see someone else, give them a smile or a grunt if you’re me.

I wonder where all the shopkeepers go when they leave our neighborhood. It’s very strange to see them actually build little stores in the neighborhood made of wood and glass, bring in tables and bars and chairs and flowers in April. And then, they take it all down. All down. It’s like they were never there. Where do they go?

I got to thinking about it. And I wondered if perhaps they needed a special shop for the winter. Ran by me. Fruity the shopkeeper. The keeper of a shop, the only one in town. Isn’t that a good idea?

You know, if I was a shopkeeper I would have the best shop in town! I would have it fully stocked with my favorite things. Pizza, spaghetti, focaccia, gelato. And a special stock of my absolute favorite gelato. The rice gelato.

But my shop would also be the first of its kind. Whoever walks in just has to think of what they need.

It could be someone who really needs a warm blanket. And like magic, it would appear!

Someone would walk in and they really need a lasagna! And like magic, it would appear! Warm and yummy and with plates and forks.

Someone would walk in and they really need a home. Like I did one time. And like magic, the perfect family would appear with treats and love and forever. Kind of like you did for your rescue! Hey! Are you a shopkeeper too?

The best part about my shop is that nothing would need money or cost anything. All you had to do was promise to do something or say something nice to someone else. And then? That would be a sale. Do you think Fruity the shopkeeper is a good idea?

In this world, it seems like everything comes at a cost. Even the good things. But my shop will remind everyone who visits that there are good people and wonderful animals in our world who do care.

And my shop knows that all individuals who visit, no matter where they are from, what they believe or who they love have wants and dreams and aspirations. My shop is the best shop.

And i hope to open it one day soon. Now, let me imagine you are walking in…right now. What will you wish for? I’ve got that in stock!
