We Threw It Away

This is Fruitycake. Many lessons are learned here every single day. For instance, you can’t trust snakes not to chase you for the fun of it. Their fun.

And you can’t ever order too much pizza, because it’s a magic food here. You gain no weight and it tastes like happiness.

But another lesson we learned this week was that if wild pigs want to take something, they will. And they wanted to take some yellow zucchini. Although they did leave us some, a lot of the plants were damaged and uprooted. So we had to throw them away. Or so we thought.

Boy Person had suspected that the flowers that had not opened might indeed open later. Girl Person was confident they would not. And so she threw them away in the big pile of weeds and sticks and thorns and branches.

But this morning, when we woke up, we saw that those blossoms had indeed opened. Even though they were in a pile of debris. Even though we had thrown them away.

Now, if you have never tried a fried zucchini flower, or a zucchini flower stuffed with cheese or a zucchini flower Parmesan sandwich, you’re missing out. And you can never have too many zucchini flowers. And you can never have too many of us. Me and you.

Someone may have thrown you away, like they did me.

Just like they did Digby.

Just like they did Brickle.

But just because we live in a world that surrounds us with neglect and negativity and apathy, that doesn’t mean we have to forget who we are. If we have been forgotten by others, or thrown away, well, it’s still possible to blossom like those zucchini flowers!

We have that power inside of us all. Yes, you too.

We have so many plans here for wildlife and for people.

And even though some may try to throw us away with words, guess what? We aren’t listening.

So be a blossom that refuses to give up. No matter what. And see the magic you can become. Maybe even zucchini flower pizza.

Now that’s magic.

Our way of showcasing rescue isn’t always apparent, especially now. But working behind the scenes and using our platforms for good is what we endeavor to do. It’s been harder than ever.  But we think this will be the best chapter of our lives.

That being said, we can’t do this without support. Costs for the blog far exceeded contributions last month. But if you’d like to help us continue in July, or for the refuge, or even for groceries, all the links are below.

Thank you again for your amazing support.

Some people never acknowledge a person just walking by. When I am in a store, I try to always smile and acknowledge that person with a smile. It’s the least you can do.
