It’s Sunday and that means a look back at a favorite memory of Brickle and Digby’s adventures! This week, we go back to Edisto, South Carolina!

We were in state #3 on our Adventure Of A Lifetime. And South Carolina was one of the states on our learning curve. We were new to traveling in an RV. And the Big Blue Treat Wagon wasn’t cooperating nicely.

We were in Edisto, South Carolina, and it was hot . Real hot. We had went to a very remote rescue who helped discarded hunting dogs. There were many in that area. And because our Digby was also a discarded hunting dog, this rescue spoke to our hearts. The people and rescuers there were in an uphill battle for the cause.

If you’ve lost count of the number of times you’ve visited 2 Traveling Dogs this year, we hope that means it’s given you at least $5 of joy. Please join the 2% of readers who give what they can to help keep this blog available for all.

But little did we know, we were also in for an uphill battle ourselves. The Big Blue Treat Wagon was shutting off at the most inopportune times. Making a left in an intersection, in the middle of the night, you name it. And because we had no way to tow our Jeep yet, I was driving behind the RV with Brickle. and Digby. But this particular day, we just had an odd feeling. Nate said we had to go up a bridge and I was not too happy about being behind a 37 foot motorhome.

Just as suspected, the RV made it up the steep hill up the bridge just in time for it to shut off. In retrospect, that’s the best thing that could have happened. I held my breath as Bog Person coasted down the bridge and pulled off. I was crying, yes, because I’m over dramatic, but also because I had no idea what we would do without money to fix this RV. Nate said it was most likely the fuel filters getting water in them and he was right. For six more years, that RV gave us the same scares over and over again in different places. I’m glad I didn’t know it then.

Numerous people pulled over to help us get quickly changed their minds when Brickle would lunge at the window or Digby would howl. The look of horror on their faces said nope, it wasn’t worth it. I can understand…

I went to go get some supplies in the jeep as Boy Person did his best to fix it. Brickle and Digby were patient for about the first hour. But after hour five, we were all ready to call it quits on state #3. I’m so glad we didn’t.

We had many more breakdowns and misadventures over the years because we had no clue what we were doing. We had no money and no business to be doing that. And yet we did it. Just like now, I suppose. Just different uphill battles.

With everything I know now, I would never trade in our years of travel.

And I hope when we look back at this time too, we will feel the same.

Thank you for letting us be part of your day today and every day for the last 14 years. We have only been able to save lives and make a difference because of your support. And we thank you. We don’t know what the future will bring, but we will be here as long as we can to raise awareness in our unique way for animal rescue and the people who do the hard work for animals every day.
If you’d like to help us continue this cause and mission which includes blogs, videos and more, you can contribute any amount here. We cannot do this without you.

I have been following you all for multiple years and have certainly enjoyed the journey-and still am. Miss Digby and Brickle too! Love them and of course love Fruitycake too! You all have this!
I wish I had know about you guys when all this stuff went down. You have a lot more faith in people than I do. When my partner was alive we had an RV, class B, brand new. It was fun but I really didn’t like it. Even though it was brand new it did things that I didn’t think it should be doing. I eventually enjoyed it, but not the way I thought I should. My idea of a vacation is you know where you’re going plot it out and go. You stop at the good motels. I never camped because both of my parents had been in the army and no way were they going back to it. So camping with semi-warm showers, always dirty feet! We finally sold the RV and took a bath on the price. Never again. Sorry!
