This is Brickle. And This Is Brickle.

This is Brickle. Yes. I start out every conversation like that. And I have since 2011. That’s a long time to keep reintroducing myself over and over. But it’s my thing. Just like being handsome. Some things you just can’t control.

I also can’t control how diverse I am. I was thinking about this yesterday and what others may think of me. Some may just look at me and see an old dog.

Some may look at me and just see my brindle color.

Some may look at me and not see anything. They may ignore me. But they don’t know me. And they don’t want to know me. That’s a shame.

Because I’m an old dog. Yes. I am a brindle colored dog. Yes. I’m also a dog that has traveled for years and have seen things most people never will. I’m a dog also that likes to lounge all day simply in a dirt hole. I’m a dog that sometimes likes gourmet spaghetti and a dog that likes to eat grass. I’m this Brickle. Tomorrow I’ll be another Brickle.

Yesterday, I had a bit of a debacle. I heard the UPS truck coming up the driveway. And usually I can’t get to them, even though they make me very mad with their interruption in my day and the noise.

But this time, I was able to get to the truck in a split second. I wasn’t the Brickle who laid around sleeping all day. This Brickle meant business.

And yet, a treat from the UPS man helped me make business a little smoother.

You may just think of me as a sweet old dog. Some days I am. Some days I certainly am not. But what I’ve learned is that none of us are one thing. Yet, we may judge others on one thing. One mistake. Or one experience. You may not get the same person tomorrow you saw today. And don’t we all deserve second chances? Can we extend that grace to others?

This is Brickle. And tomorrow will be another Brickle. And a month from now, who will I be? I hope more traveled. I hope healthy. I hope happy. I hope better. What about you?
