This is Fruitycake The Raccoon. I’ve been scratching a lot the last week. Because I’ve been itching a lot. There are new things all around me. Some things aren’t so friendly like the Poisonwood Tree.
But even though new things can be dangerous, im also learning that not trying new things can be dangerous too. That’s what Peanut Butter Brickle told me. And he knows everything.
You see. Brickle told me there was a time when maybe he would have been content to stay in one spot. He would have been content with the familiar. But once he traveled and got the itch, well, he had to scratch it. And he doesn’t regret it.
So then I wondered. The persons have been telling me to stop scratching. But in fact, I think happiness comes from scratching an itch.
You may decide you want to travel.
Or you may decide you want to move. You may decide you want to have an adventure.
Or you may decide you want to meet someone new. Whatever it is that keep itching you, don’t ignore it. You deserve the happiness that comes from being fulfilled. Even if what you want changes again tomorrow or if you want more.
I’m learning that it’s ok to be happy and not fight against feeling good. I was in survival mode for a long time as a stray.
And maybe you feel that way too. Surviving means you’re breathing. But it doesn’t mean you’re living. Scratch that itch.
