Pants And Food

This is Digby Pancake. Do you like being an adult?

I don’t remember when I was a puppy very much.

I just remember being hungry all of the time and wanting to sleep a lot. So I guess not much has changed.

But for the persons, being an adult is hard for them sometimes. They have to do things they don’t want to do. And unless they do it, no one else will. And they complain about it. A lot.

Girl Person didn’t used to mind going to get groceries. But when you have camped as long as we have and been away from hectic life, it’s hard to jump back in it once a week.

She looks for sales. She looks for coupons. She looks for ingredients she likes. But when you are in a different place every week, you have no idea where to even start.

And it’s hard to start. So she makes excuses why she can’t go.

So yesterday when it was the day to get groceries, she mustered up all of her courage. She said she put on big girl pants. Because she had washed her pants the day before. And she didn’t want to do that either.

And she got the groceries.

She was thankful she was done when she got home. I was too.

And she wondered…when did daily life become so hard? When did the responsibilities of life get so overwhelming?

She didn’t know exactly when it had happened. But she wondered if being an adult meant being unhappy. And I think not.

Of course, I stop eating dinner when there is no more dinner. And I don’t want to. But I know there will be more tomorrow because the persons won’t let me down. They will go to the store even though they don’t want to. Because they love me.

And I guess maybe chores should be like that too. Instead of thinking of not wanting to do something, think about what and who you are doing it for.

Life may be hard work as an adult.

But finding joy doesn’t have to be hard. You just have to be thankful you can buy those groceries. Be thankful you have someone to buy them for. And remember to never forget that.
