Family Is An Investment
This is Fruitycake.
When you hear the word investment, you might think about money. I usually think about pizza. But apparently there are other kinds of investments.
Like family.
Family is an investment of your time. Your patience. Your forgiveness. Your listening. Your showing up when it would be easier not to. Your choosing to care again tomorrow, even when today was hard.
And just like other investments, you usually get something back.
Maybe not in the way you expect. Maybe not immediately. But when you put love, attention and effort into the people and animals who matter to you, you are building something that can help carry you through life.
And family doesn’t always mean the people you were born with.
Sometimes friends become family.
Sometimes a dog becomes family.
Sometimes people you have never met in person become family because they have walked beside you through years of stories, rescues, losses, moves, laughter, tears and really questionable decisions.
That’s what the 2 Traveling Dogs family means to us.
For years, you have watched us try to make rescues the breed of choice. You have celebrated with us. You have cried with us. You have remembered the ones we lost.
And now you’re here with me.
I’m an investment too.
Someone once had to decide I was worth the effort. Worth the time. Worth the patience. Worth another chance.
And look what that investment became.
A dog with a blog.
Obviously, that was an excellent decision.
So today, invest in your family.
Call someone. Listen a little longer. Forgive something small. Sit beside your dog. Check on a friend. Tell somebody they matter.
Don’t wait until you desperately need your family to start investing in them.
Build those relationships now. It’s time to say today’s affirmation out loud! Ready?
Today I affirm:
I will invest my time, love and effort in the people and animals who make my life richer. I will remember that friends can become family, animals are family, and the love I give today can help carry all of us tomorrow.
I invest in you every day with my persons. We work for you. We work WITH you to make a difference for the earth and all of us who live on it.

I have needs of my own right now, and taking care of me has to come first because without Fruitycake, there aren’t Fruitycake blogs, affirmations, adventures and all the ways we use my story to remind people that rescue dogs are worth choosing.
