Sometimes, You Have To Crawl

This is Peanut Butter Brickle. I’ve been moving very carefully lately. When your body is as experienced as mine is, you learn how it starts and how to get it restarted when it stalls.

And right now, I feel like our whole family is not only going slow. But we are going so under the speed limit that we may get a ticket for that.

Today, we leave this France place.

And we make our way to that Italy place. That Italy place. It has seemed like a dream the last year. A dream with many setbacks. And many disappointments. A dream with hopes. A dream that seemed unrealistic.

But we are almost there. The problem now? We are tired. And all of us are struggling in this family now. Boy Person is still in pain with his leg and back. Girl Person has problems I’m not allowed to talk about. I’m slower than I want to be and need a lot of maintenance.

And Fruitycake? He is having to deal with all of us. It’s hard to be the positive one, I hear. Fruitycake is our service dog right now.

And he says if we have to crawl to that Italy place, that is what will have to happen. Fruitycake says we can do it. And somehow, I believe him. Because I want to believe him.

Somehow, I also think Digby would want us to crawl to that Italy place and my house too. Because it is his house too. He earned it too. His body just didn’t get to keep going.

And so, today, I’ll listen to his favorite song. And I’ll be happy we can crawl to that Italy place. We can do it.

So let’s do this. Today. We have a drive from France to Italy. We rest for two nights. And then…the last drive is on Thursday. It’s time to get our snacks ready today. Digby would want pancakes. Chicken jerky. And of course cheese. We will get that. And we’ve got this. Let’s crawl.
