This is Peanut Butter Brickle. When it rains, it pours. Or, so they say. Or in our case, if it is supposed to rain, you drive away from it so that Girl Person doesn’t get attacked by the Depression Monster.
Yesterday, it was supposed to rain so bad in this North Carolina place again. Girl Person hasn’t been feeling her best, so Boy Person made the suggestion that we drive to where it was not raining. And that way, we didn’t have to be stuck inside all day. But the funny thing was, it didn’t actually end up raining except to the places we drove to. Life is like that, isn’t it? You think that you are avoiding one problem, and you end up meeting another one.
When life hands you lemons, you make lemonade.
But when life hands you rain, you make a stop for ice cream. And for Fruitycake The Raccoon, it was his very first visit to an ice cream place. He didn’t really understand what was going on. But he knew it had to be exciting. And he definitely is always up for a new food!
When Boy Person ordered our ice cream and walked out with it, you would have thought he had the world in a cup.
And for me and Fruitycake, he did have the world in a cup. A cup of care and of love. A cup of adventure and vanilla all mixed in one. I will never forget the taste of that ice cream, because seeing Fruity enjoy it for the first time made me taste it like never before.
Do you have the world in a cup? Are you so used to the wonderful things that you experience every day that you don’t see them?
Do you appreciate them? I have a trick for you.
Close your eyes. Taste the taste and smell the smells. Hear the sounds and feel the air. With your eyes closed, you can’t see anyone telling you what you should like. You have no one to influence you but your own feelings.
And when you start to appreciate life again and the wonderful things, watch what happens. Others will see your enjoyment and wonder what they are missing.
Fruitycake didn’t know what he was missing because no one told him that life wasn’t just about fighting for it.
We had to teach him that life was about good things. It is easy only to see the bad. It is very easy. But close your eyes and remember the good things in your cup.
I am sure that this little town called Saluda in North Carolina was used to this store and the ice cream and the buildings full of character. I wonder if they see all of that like we did. I wonder.
Do they know that this little moment in our lives was one of the best? They gave us the world in a cup.
