This is Sheriff Peanut Butter Brickle. Why do some days feel different? Why do some days feel like you have waited for them forever? Why do some days have an overwhelming sense of beginning and end? I don’t know. I am a dog. I know it’s hard to believe.

We left for this trip May 2, 2016 with the goal of 48 states and 48 rescues in one year. And yes, we did not reach our goal of finishing this in a year. But we have never been accused of being on time! At least not Boy Person. But here we are. State #48. Rescue visit #48. Today, we head to California. If you have been our fan for a bit, you may remember how we had to leave Sonoma, California in 2012 after we had moved there from Florida in 2011.

We couldn’t sell our home, Girl Person had lost her job twice, and we thought we could get back to California in a year. That year turned into five years with many bumps along the way.

Some people say that they wouldn’t change a thing in their lives because it made them the person they are now. I could not disagree more. I would change the days I had no peanut butter cookies when I was in the shelter jail. And there are a lot of things our family would change if they could. Not taking loved ones for granted, being overwhelmed with possessions, being upset when their dog treat business didn’t do as good as they wanted it to.

But all of that led us up to our Adventure Of A Lifetime and trying to help animals across the country, and giving some love to the people who do some of the hardest jobs in the world like the South Coast Humane Society in Brookings, Oregon we visited this week.
Has it been easy? No. No it has not. And this trip is not over yet. We have work to do in California…and it starts today! And we are more than excited to see it again. We thought we never would again.

We will be looking back on what led us up to this point all next week on the blog in between our normal daily stuff. You see, as Sheriff, I feel it is my duty to inform. And I want you to know the whole story. All of it. Because I feel you need to know. That’s what I do.

I also feel that you need to know we found Bigfoot. I told you that we would. Our time in Oregon was well spent!
For every state that we have been to so far, one thing has remained the same. We have no idea what comes after this. But for now, we know that with tears of joy, we are once again ready to say hello to a place we have missed so much. A place that we worked so hard to get back to. Will we be able to stay? We don’t know. Will we want to stay? We don’t know that either. Will it be the same as we remember? We are nervous to know.

But whatever happens, we will embrace it. Because today? It is first day of the rest of our life. Will you join us?
Follow us on our Facebook page today to keep up, and all this weekend!
