The Lowdown Slowdown

This is Sheriff Peanut Butter Brickle. Today, Digby is on sick leave as we wait for a call from the vet. I figure there is no hurry for him to get back to writing today. In fact, there’s no hurry for nothing. The lowdown is that we are slowing down.

I’ve never been one to rush unless it’s peanut butter cookie time. But I’ve figured out lately that unless I keep pace with Digby, I’m walking by myself anyways.

Life has a way of helping you to learn lessons. But so do dogs. And since last week, Digby has shown us that we can make it thru anything together.

Digby has shown us that you have to smile even when things look bleak.

And Digby has shown us that every day should be more than an agenda. A day doesn’t always have to be about reaching goals. And if you can’t get past that, make it your goal to throw away all the goals. Unless you play soccer. And in that case, don’t do that.

This weekend was hard. Gandma and Gandpa came to see us though, and we got lots of ice cream and kisses. I was surprised to see them pull up at our campsite. They had to drive a long way, but Girl Person told us never to underestimate how many people love us. And you know what? Even I am feeling it.

The last week has been one of the hardest we have went thru as a family. Ok. It has been THE hardest. And Girl Person says that when the vet person calls and gives us the news on Digby hopefully today, that we will go from there. I have a feeling and my feelings are always right, that Digby is trying his hardest to feel better. He says it’s exhausting and tiring to feel so bad. But he says he doesn’t feel bad all the time. And he knows everyone is trying to help him.

We may not be able to take our hikes right now. Or even walk to the beach. We may only be able to walk down two streets at the most. But I would rather walk those two streets forever with Digby than walk around the world by myself.

Isn’t life like that for some persons? They try so hard to get ahead by themselves and the result is leaving the ones that love them behind. What good is success alone? And is that even success?

If love could heal Digby, it would be done. But since Digby is made of love, let’s keep positive. The lowdown is we are slowing down and appreciating every day. Digby has always done that. In fact, he told me if everyone could sing his favorite song today, that would help us all.

Digby has always helped us see the good in every day. Now it’s our turn to help him. So whatever you are doing today, slowdown. Smell the pancakes and send those positive vibes.
