I Think Tomorrow Is Sniffing Around

Yesterday Girl Person and Boy Person finally visited the rescue here in Lake Como, and they came home with a lot more than pictures and videos. They came home with stories, ideas and that little spark I haven’t seen in them for a while. I was supposed to go too, but I got sick and stayed home, and that’s okay. I have all the videos to help with now, and I am going to tell you some of these dogs’ stories myself. Every important job needs a narrator, and fortunately I am available.
Today we are taking a day to decompress before we start sharing everything with you. Yesterday was physically hard on Girl Person, and both of my persons need a little time to take in everything they experienced. That’s one reason we are staying in Lake Como until Tuesday. There is time to rest, time to work on all the content Girl Person wants to make and, most importantly, time to do these dogs justice. It also gives me a change of scenery, and I have decided Lake Como is quite acceptable. I will submit my full review after I investigate the pizza.
One dog Girl Person told me about was Godi, a pit bull who has had many puppies. Her puppies left, but Godi is still there and she is still happy. I think dogs are pretty good at understanding something persons sometimes forget: just because yesterday didn’t turn out the way you wanted doesn’t mean today can’t turn out wonderfully. Godi isn’t waiting for her past to change before she enjoys what is in front of her now. She is ready for what comes next, and I think there is something very important in that for all of us.
Maybe we are ready for what comes next too. While we are here beginning to imagine what our next chapter in rescue could look like, we also have a very interested person coming from France next week to see the rustico. We aren’t getting ahead of ourselves, but we are hopeful. I have also learned that he likes bread, which makes me think negotiations should go extremely well. If he wants to pay for the rustico in baguettes, I am willing to hear him out. Girl Person continues to insist on euros because apparently she has no imagination when it comes to international real estate.
For now, we are going to enjoy being here, let Girl Person rest and start putting together the stories they brought home yesterday. There are dogs I can’t wait for you to meet and things we learned that I can’t wait to tell you about. We don’t know what happens with the rustico next week, and we don’t know exactly where this new rescue journey will take us, but maybe we don’t need to know yet. There is still so much good ahead of us. Sometimes you just have to notice when tomorrow starts sniffing around and be brave enough to open the door.
TODAY’S AFFIRMATION
The Past Is Only A Teacher, Not A Leader
The past may teach me, but it will not lead me. I will carry forward its wisdom instead of its fear. I am allowed to choose a different path today. My next decision belongs to the person I am becoming.
Godi seems to understand that already. I think we can too. Yesterday already happened, persons. There is a whole today sitting in front of us and an entire tomorrow we haven’t even sniffed yet. Let’s go find the good in it.

P.S. Today we need to stock up on necessities while we are here in Lake Como and put fuel in the car. If I continue feeling better, I would also really like to take a short, easy hike, get a little fresh air and investigate the local pizza situation because I take my responsibilities very seriously. But this is about more than getting us through today. Dogs like Godi deserve to have their stories told. There are dogs sitting in rescues right now who may never get the chance to show someone who they really are unless somebody takes the time to notice them, learn their story and share it. That is the work we want to keep doing, and we want to expand it. We want to visit more rescues, meet more dogs, create more videos and stories and find new ways to help those dogs be seen by the people who might change their lives.
We cannot keep doing this work—or grow it into what we believe it can become—without support. We must have your support to continue. Fuel, travel, necessities, filming and all the little expenses that make these visits possible add up, and right now we need our community beside us if we are going to keep moving forward.
