The Dog Hair Situation Affirmation

This is Fruitycake. Boy Person has been cleaning like a maniac lately. Sweeping. Organizing the few things we have. Picking things up and putting them somewhere else. Making sure we have enough of Girl Person’s sparkling water. Making sure even my sheets and blankets are clean too.

Why all this activity? Because Girl Person is coming home soon.

Now, Boy Person has decided that one of the greatest challenges facing humanity is the amount of dog hair currently in the rustico. He keeps attacking it with determination. I keep making more. It’s important to have hobbies.

Every time he gets something clean, I walk by. Problem solved.

But watching him made me think about something. Persons spend a lot of time trying to remove things that stick to them. Dog hair. Dirt. Clutter. Mistakes. Embarrassing moments. Bad days. But some things are worth having stick around.

The best people I’ve ever known leave something behind wherever they go. They leave kindness. They leave laughter. They leave comfort. They leave memories that show up years later and make you smile. Girl Person has been gone for a while, but her love is still all over this place. Just like my fur, it got into everything.

Boy Person can clean every room in the rustico. He can lint-roll every shirt he owns. But there are some things you wouldn’t want to clean away even if you could.

And if Girl Person finds a little dog hair when she gets home, she’ll know exactly what it means.

It means she is home.

Today’s Affirmation! Say It With Me, OK?

I will leave behind more kindness than criticism, more laughter than worry, and more love than fear. The best parts of me are meant to stick around. And if I happen to leave a little dog hair behind too, that’s just a bonus.

🐾 P.S. from Fruitycake: If you’d like to help Boy Person get the rustico ready for Girl Person’s homecoming, we’re still working hard every day on supplies, fuel for equipment, and of course my food and care. We’ve been sharing blogs, affirmations, rescue advocacy, and animal outreach as volunteers since 2011, and your support helps keep it all going. Thank you for helping us get ready to welcome Girl Person home. ❤️
