Everything And Everyone Comes At A Cost

Everything and Everyone Comes At A Cost

Oh, the decision to come to Italy with my dogs. It seemed crazy. It seemed like a dream. It seemed like the only decision to make. I had to do it. We had to do it. Something inside us was calling us there for a bigger purpose. But what?

For many that followed us for years…some that followed us for over ten years at the time, they knew us. They read the blog every day, they saw  our videos and dogs every day. In many ways, they knew us more than our own families. And they understood us and what we were trying to do for rescues and animals more than our own families. But the decision to come to another country wasn’t met with all love. There was doubt and critics and even hate. It surprised me because I thought that they knew us. But sometimes, unfortunately the ones that know us the longest can judge us the most because they don’t see the now. Or our progress. The past and history can be hard for others when we make a change. I get that. I understand that. Even if they didn’t.

Everything we do in life comes at a cost, doesn’t it? Moving here was an adventure. I wanted so desperately to show others that including our pets in any life decision is the right thing to do. So after waiting years for a safe way to get our dogs here was the only way. Brickle made it here at 15 years old. Truly a traveling dog. And what a  life he led us to. I KNOW he was leading us to our next adventure. He was in fact dropping us off to a new mission. A new way and an even bigger way to help animals. I didn’t know what that mission was for a little while after he died. But the new mission started taking shape. It wasn’t about helping animals in Italy. It was about helping the people who help animal across the WORLD. It was about saving our earth, one video and article at a time. It was about a wildlife conservation plan and a worldwide education center. Oh, Brickle. Why did you have to make this so hard, I think! Just kidding. He somehow knew we could use this property and even redoing this rustico to show what we all can do together. But. Everything and everyone comes at a cost.

As two people doing it all for now, including hauling supplies up a mountain, braving the cold and the clearing of land, while trying to afford groceries and supplies ourselves, we sacrifice comfort. We sacrifice seeing family and going on vacations. We can’t ever have a true break. A break is considered only two trips to the waterfall for showers and dishes. Our clothes fray apart and our shoes last a month or less. It’s not easy. It’s a full time job. We simply have to keep going. There is no choice. That’s ok because we know our purpose is to help animals and people here. We prayed to get here. Now that we are, we take it seriously. It is our purposes but we need help to do this.

That is why on January 1, there will be one weekly dog blog on Monday, but the rest of the week’s blogs will be on the Patreon platform. We have a little over 120 people on that the $5 a month charge. That will one of the only ways we can even keep the blog going. And if you can join, the more support we get, the more we can do. The faster we can do it. And mentally, we can make progress knowing we have that support.

We know many are not going to like the blog moving to a paid version. We do apologize but we also can’t work for free and it takes time and resources which we’ve used for years to do this. It is part of this new mission and purpose and a legacy started by Brickle and Digby. We hope you’ll embrace the change as a way to all stay together in a world that makes it hard to stay together. We are on one earth. Countries were started by men and those imaginary boundaries don’t need to be used to separate us. Let’s stick together and help animals in our one big world!

We also have a Patreon site for Under The Crow, which is what we named the property here in honor of the streams named as such and crows  that inhabit this area. On that Patreon, you’ll get first access to hidden documents and history and a big surprise for 2026. You can join that for $5 a month as well. We know you will love it.

Yes, this project has come at great cost to us. We miss the ones who have decided that helping others where they live is right. Because we believe we all can help each other in small ways that add up to big ones. And we hope you’ll continue to support this project and our goal to Make Rescues The Breed Of Choice in this new way.
