Leftovers Or Do Over?
This is Fruitycake. When the big soup pot comes out in our one burner kitchen, you know it’s time for comfort.

It’s cold here. And we try all the ways to keep warm. Not just our bodies, but our minds too. Soup helps with that. But just like the spot in life my persons are at right now, the question is…leftovers or do over? Do we have ingredients for a soup using just leftovers, or should we just start all the way over?

In this Italy place, they have a soup called ribollita. In Italian, that word means reboiled. They take leftovers and add stale bread and make a soup out of it. They use what they have so that nothing goes to waste.

But what if you don’t have what you want in the soup? What if you don’t have any ingredients for it? You can choose to sit and stew about it. That won’t make the soup. Or, you can start over. All the way over. And make another kind of soup that you can make. Life is like this too.
If we’ve tried one way of doing something, and it still doesn’t work, so we keep reboiling the same ingredients? If we do, how can we expect anything else but the same situation? The same soup?

Sometimes you have to start over. And try a whole new way of solving a problem. It won’t be the same soup you’re used to. And that can be hard to taste and get used to. But it may be even better. You won’t know unless you try.

Leftovers or do over? Take a step back and see what you have and what you don’t have left to give. For my persons, their bodies and minds are just so tired. But their hearts want to keep going.

What can we do? We don’t know. But we may need to pull out our recipe box.
