He Was and Is…Everyone’s Dog

This is Girl Person. I hope that you don’t mind me taking the blog over for Fruitycake today. Although what he has to say on any day is far more interesting than on my most exciting days, I want to take the opportunity to talk directly today about my Digby Pancake. About our Digby Pancake. Because he was and is…everyone’s dog.

Listen to this blog here

We had Digby in our family for 11 years of his life on earth. As far as we know, he was born in 2009. And when we adopted him in 2010, well, when Brickle adopted him, he challenged us from the start. A former hunting dog always kept in cages and scared of loud noises, Digby had reasons to be scared. Digby had reasons to try and run away…constantly. From the first morning when he jumped in the swamp, to his last days when he howled like a teenager, he was truly full of life. He truly lived every day to the full.

We often talk about Digby and Brickle’s dedication to the cause of animal rescue. And while that was true, and they knew their purpose, they were more than a cause.

I used to get so many letters and emails and messages saying that Digby reminded people of their dogs. Dogs in their lives now or ones who had passed away. Digby truly did have the look of a lab, but he was pure foxhound. And yet, breed didn’t matter. The way he embodied so many people’s dogs was truly special. He could remind someone of their best friend. He could be someone special to them by helping them to remember. He was…and is…everyone’s dog.

So on this 4th anniversary of Digby’s passing, I have to tell you something. I barely can live without him or Brickle. J can barely breathe when I think of him. Regrets and pain haven’t went away. And it’s honestly a pain I wish on no one. But I have a feeling you know that pain. I have a feeling you understand. I also have a feeling you miss him too. I can’t pretend life has been the the same since he passed away.

But I also know that if his life made a difference for so many, there was and is a reason for that. And I have a secret. Your dogs of the past and the ones you have now also have been in your life for a reason. Not just to be your friend or family. But to help you to live your best life. Look at the ones with you now. Right now. Will you do it for Digby? That is the best way to celebrate his day today. By loving your dogs. Your pets. Your people too.

Pancakes for everyone today! Howl as loud as you can! Give life your best shot today! Live like Digby today and know that he was your dog too.

And although things seem overwhelming in so many ways for us, we don’t consider it impossible. Just the opposite. But with decreasing support, we may have to decrease the amount of free content. We wish it was different. We truly do.

Out of over a million followers, we are only asking for a total of 400 people who have pay $5 a month, 16 cents a day, on our Patreon pages to keep the blog going free Jan 1
