This is Fruitycake. What a weekend! I thought that weekends were made for resting and playing and eating and barking. Yes, of course I did all of that.

But the persons? They needed my assistance with an unexpected rescue. And by assistance, I mean not getting involved. Sometimes that is the best assistance you can give. But sometimes, you must step in the hole without thinking and do what you have to do.

We had a break in the rain on Saturday and there was one spot of sunshiney by the waterfall. So before the sun went down behind the mountain, we ran over to set that sunshiney on our face.

Please don’t forget about Live Like Digby Day Here

There are two gigantic holes by the waterfall. We haven’t been able to figure out exactly what they are, but there they are. We went to go sit on the edge and when we did, something was in that hole. Something moved. And in one swift motion that even Taylor Swift would have been proud of, Girl Person screamed, grabbed me and yelled to Boy Person that something was in that hole.

She didn’t even look at it. And yet, Boy Person is so used to her frantic ways, and dramatic ways that even Elizabeth Taylor would be proud of, he walked over to the hole to find a young cinghiale in that hole.

Unable to stand, unable to get out, and both the persons worked to get her out.

When they got her out, at first they thought her leg was hurt because she was unable to stand. But then they realized she could stand, but immediately fell over. Like a cinghiale that was at the bar all night.

They tried to give her food thinking she was exhausted and water. But nothing helped. She was very scared of them and so they decided that she could not be stressed out like that. Girl Person sat for awhile near enough to see her but far enough to be able to keep her from rolling over the mountain terrace. She sang to her and prayed with her and let her sleep. She was so, so tired.

If you have ever seen a sleeping pig, even I will admit how cute they are. But it was cold and might rain so they carried her to a warmer place and safer place. They let her sleep and sleep, but in the meantime called rescues in the area. They were told by the rescues that they couldn’t help by law due to a sickness in the area.

That if my persons called authorities they would not let her live. So of course they couldn’t do that. Back to the rescue!

By this time, Boy Person had named her Olive. There were many talks with Olive the wild piggy. Talks about how beautiful she was and how important she was. How she was a wonderful creation and she had come into their day to help them remember their purpose. And they would help her all they could.

Sometimes we have to say goodbye to someone when they are too sick. Like when Brickle was sick, helping him meant letting him go so he wasn’t in pain. Digby too.

And the persons knew this. But they also knew and know every situation and individual is different. Their hearts and prayer helped them to know what to do. And Olive told them too. She continued every few hours to get up. She tried to live. And when they went to bed that that night, Girl Person had a dream.

A beautiful woman named Olive gave her a letter. The letter said, “thank you for not only knowing your purpose, but not ignoring it. Thank you for not looking away. Thank you for loving me. I love you. I will say goodbye now, but I’m running down the mountain to the stream to be a piggy and the piggy you helped me to be. Love, Olive”

And that’s what happened. Olive saved her strength, got back her courage and ran off to the mountains of Portofino to be a wild piggy. May her days be as long as that snout. May her wisdom continue to guide her as her big, brown eyes. We love you, Olive. We have no doubt that you were not just a sign. You were a miracle. It was our honor to know you. Now, I do have a problem with that one cinghiale who caused me a lot of problems last year. Perhaps, you can kinda return the favor by telling him to not repeat that? I think his name is Sam if that helps.
