This is Fruitycake. Have you ever thought that you had a handle on something? I’ll tell you this. I hate those handles on dog harnesses.

Persons think that they can lift us wherever they want to because they can with those things. What am I? A Fruity Bird?
But you know. I was talking about handles. You think that you know something or can do something. After all, you’ve done it a million times before. But when you think you have a handle on something, that’s when you usually lose your grip.
When Girl Person and I were farming yesterday, we unearthed a handle. We find lots of things here in the dirt from who knows when. Way before my time and even before Brickle’s time. That’s old.

We find tile and glass and bottles and even old clothes sometimes. But the handle we found yesterday had its own story. It told me so. Yes, just so you know, dogs can hear everyone.

The old handle was once used and held on to. It helped its person carry water and wine and olive oil. Oh, it was strong. So strong! It knew what it was created to do and it did it so well. But sometimes, when you know someone for a long time, like the person did the handle, it started forgetting its value. And the person wasn’t so careful with it anymore.

Then one day, when someone brought up a new handle attached to a pitcher up the mountain, the person saw the shiny new handle. And he wasn’t as careful anymore. He would drop the handle and forget about it. Over and over. Until one day, the handle broke with neglect and it was left. Never to be picked up again.

The handle watched all the new handles and pitchers from the dirt it was dropped in. And the handle remembered the good old days when it was loved and valued. One day, a big storm came and it buried the handle in dirt and mud. And it was never to be seen again. Until I found it.

We will see as we get older that others try to minimize our value. Brickle told me it happens.

But he also said that we have to work on our own value. Not the value others think we have. Not what they see on front of them. But who we know we are! Don’t let anyone treat you like that old handle. If you have let that happen, I see you now. I see your value. I’m uncovering it for you so that I can show you now. You’ve got a handle on this! I believe in your worth.
