The Glowing Butterfly
This is Fruitycake. I like the different moments of each day. I can appreciate the sun rise with the birds singing. I can appreciate the afternoon lunch talking about our day so far. And I love the evening walks we take. I could go on and on like stretchy mozzarella.
But one of my favorite moments has been a secret, only to me, until yesterday. When Girl Person and I sit on our rock we call the Rescue Rock, there is a glowing butterfly that appears. I have been the only one to see it and notice it. I have been the only one who appreciates it. But because it is magic, I can’t tell anyone else to see it. They just will, or they won’t.
The glowing butterfly glows so bright in the dark sides of the rocks by the waterfall that it seems unreal. And yet, it is there. On the darkest days, even without sunshiney, it appears in the same place. Sometimes it only appears for a moment. Sometimes it lingers. And yesterday, Girl Person noticed it. She noticed it because it was so bright! Almost blinding!

We were sitting on the rock and she was telling me how we had a lot of work to do. She said she didn’t know what to tackle first each day. So we decided that as long as we knew what our intentions were and our reason and our goals, that any step and any project that aligned with that was a step to that. She seemed to brighten up a little bit with that thought and when she opened her eyes from praying, there the glowing butterfly was.
She asked me what in the world it was. She knew I saw it because I was staring at it. And yet, when she tried to get a picture, it didn’t show up. But she would look again and there it was.
And she told me that when you believe in something you don’t need to prove it to anyone but you. I agreed.

I know the glowing butterfly. And I’ve known it for a long time. Maybe all time.
Maybe the magic things are all around us each day, but we can’t see them thru the clouds of doubt.

Maybe we don’t believe in magic. But magic is all of us and what we can do.

The world is much more wonderful than any of us know. And the fun part is imagining what is ahead for us to discover.
Today, she saw the glowing butterfly. Because she saw the magic in possibilities and hope. What will you see today?
