This is Fruitycake. Joy is something that I have a lot of. If you could hear my inner thoughts, and see them too, you be at a happy disco all day long. Saturday night fever is all day, every day!

But persons have a harder time finding joy. Because they let other things, real and imagined too, to stop joy. Like the man who sold toys that had no joy.

Grocery day happens a few times every week, because my persons can’t carry everything up the mountain at once.

Also, you don’t buy fruits or vegetables ahead of time, because they are so ripe, they sometimes last a day or less!

So since grocery days happen a lot, Girl Person was getting a bit weary. And she saw some toys in a window. She loves toys and fairy tales and everything like that. So her and Boy Person went in the store to look.

The man person in the store didn’t act too happy. He had rows and rows of baby dolls and little vespas. Yes, I know. Can you imagine me driving one around?!

He didn’t act too happy my persons were in the store. He probably had lots and lots of tourist persons that day. Maybe he was hungry for lunch, because he looked at his watch.

My persons saw him look at his watch and didn’t want to intrude. They didn’t know if maybe he was closing. So they told him they would be back another time. That’s when the man person who sold toys that had no joy started yelling at them. He was very mad, although they had no idea what he was mad about. He asked them if they were going to buy something or not. They had only been there two minutes. They were really, really confused.

Boy Person told him nicely that we lived here, that they were not tourists. He was trying to speak in his language and Girl Person just decided sometimes you have to walk away. So she did. But it was bothering Boy Person. He wanted to know what they did. And so he went back. Back to ask. But the man person wouldn’t talk to him at all. So Boy Person just told him he was sorry for whatever they had done or did not do. And to have a good day.

The man person who sold toys had no joy that day. Even though he was surrounded by good things and happy things, he didn’t have joy. Are we like that too?

We can be surrounded by so many blessings like a warm bed or food or a simple ray of sunshiney hitting our face. But we don’t feel the joy. We let other things distract us from what we have and what blessings we have been fortunate to receive.

It’s like finding a roach in a pizza, I presume. That’s never happened to me, but it sure did to my persons once. They called the pizza man in that Florida place and wondered why there was a roach baked in their pizza. He didn’t know. But he laughed. And they did too.

But I’ll tell you what. They never went back to that pizza place. And they might not go back to that toy store either.

Although it took them a little while to eat pizza after that, they got over it and pizza now is a joy again! So if someone tried to take your joy, try again. Because I can guarantee it’s not as bad as a man person yelling at you in a toy store or a roach baked in a pizza.
