The Haughty One

This is Fruitycake. The blog is a little later today. I would apologize for that, but honestly, I didn’t think it would be possible at all today.

Girl Person is feeling like she doesn’t know if this blog is needed any longer. But I told her not to make any plans other than keeping on keeping on for now. And she listened to me. So I’m writing to you another day.

Boy Person said that we needed a change in routine today. So we took a walk to a lighthouse.

It wasn’t very far away, and on our way there, we got to see lots of boats and the sea. And we got to see some birds sitting up high, overlooking all the goings on of the pretty city of Portofino below.

Girl Person remarked that she wasn’t sure if those birds appreciated where they were perched. I’m sure that they have sat there many times, watching the persons with lots of money stuff walk around showing off the money stuff. Money stuff is something that those seagulls were trying to get up there too. But their money stuff is the focaccia that drops from the greasy fingers of the persons. That’s what their legal tender is.

And one bird decided he wanted a very big piece of that he saw fall to the cobblestone street below. He grabbed it so quickly, like lightening fast speed. And he flew right back up to that perch with the other birds who also wanted a bite. One of the other birds decided it was all his, and he took the whole thing away in one bite, with all the other birds not even left with a crumb. Not even the bird who had worked so hard for it. But I saw what happened behind the scenes.

The bird who had got the bread first didn’t even try to hold on to it. He shared freely and nicely with the bird that stole it. The haughty bird. The haughty bird who was haughty not because he was perched above a pretty city. But the haughty bird who thought he was better than all the other birds. Who thought he deserved more than the others. And who took what he wanted to when he wanted to. Highly haughty!

This probably wasn’t the first time the haughty bird was haughty. And I wonder why he thought it was ok to do that. I wonder what makes something worth being haughty for. And the answer is nothing is worth that. We all have value and should realize that. But never let ourselves be fooled that we deserve more than someone else. No matter what circumstances we are in.

It’s the times we give more than what we think we can that test us. Girl Person is definitely trying to realistically determine if others want the blog to continue or if she is just holding on to all of this, the blog and our project for wildlife for her own sake. We don’t have the answer but we aren’t haughty enough to conclude that it would make a difference if we weren’t here. We don’t know. Maybe a little bird will tell us soon. But we hope not the haughty one. I don’t want to share my focaccia.
