This is Fruitycake. Have you ever been real tired? So tired that even yawning is tiring? That’s me today.
I’ve been having so much fun lately. And really? I’m just starting to get to know myself better and my persons too. I’m not sure if the hiking that I make Girl Person do is helping me or her more. I do know that life seems like it’s getting better lately.
We’ve all missed Brickle so bad that it’s hard to feel good. As soon as you start feeling good, you feel guilty about it.
Because he isn’t here to enjoy what we are enjoying. But I do know that he would want me to carry on. I do know that he wouldn’t want the persons to forget him. But he would want us to enjoy things WHILE remembering him.
Does that make sense? It does to me. And that’s also what he told me to do. It’s hard to convey that to the persons sometimes.
This weekend, I was told about broccoli casserole. A casserole that Granny Person used to make for Girl Person when she was little. And it was special. It made her feel good. Like scratching Digby’s back made him feel good.
And she just now can remember it fondly. It’s been about 9 years since Granny wasn’t here.
But somehow, the time has softened her grief. It’s hasn’t gone away. But it’s made the last memories fade and the best memories brighter. And good. Like broccoli casserole.
That’s how I think grief is. The last memories you have have a way of making the good ones feel less important. But there are more of them. And it’s important to enjoy them. Like a broccoli casserole. With crackers and butter.
Never let the bad things of life…which are few…overshadow the good. Don’t let them win. Let the broccoli casserole win.
