The Speech

This is Fruitycake. I’ve learned with Girl Person that when memories come up in her mind about Brickle and Digby, usually, it starts with funny or happy things she mentions.

But then, the memories make her miss them even more. And she gets sad again.

Boy Person tries to be stronger. He knows he has to take care of us. Not just that he has to. But he wants to. I really love him.

Yesterday, the persons had to go back to school. They had one more part of their test that they had to do. They had to speak for a few minutes and talk about themselves.

And Boy Person’s speech was this:

My Story

My name is Nate. I was born in Tampa, Florida in the United States. I grew up on a vegetable farm. We had little money, but we still got to travel to different places. As a child, traveling was my favorite time. I was happy, but wanted more. When I was older, I married a beautiful girl from Florida. We both loved animals and travel. Together, we built a beautiful house in an orange tree grove. We were happy, but wanted more. We decided to sell our house and travel the United States. For eight years, we traveled. We traveled with our two dogs Peanut Butter Brickle and Digby Pancake. Each day was new and exciting. We were happy, but wanted more. Then we saw a photo of an old empty house for sale in Italy. We loved it right away. The change has been difficult but exciting. We have made new friends. Both animals and people. We are learning so much about this part of the Earth. We will continue to travel to learn even more. We are happy now. But is there more? My story continues…

You can probably guess what part Boy Person started crying at. He had tried to be strong lately and keep busy. But he was holding in too much. And sometimes, one emotion can cause another. And you just have to feel them all.

What would you say about yourself if you had this speech to do?

I won’t make you speak Italian. But I would like to know more about you. I bet you don’t talk about yourself much do you? Maybe you’re afraid of feeling the feels. But be proud of who you are. And the person you are.

We have some really uncertain times in the next week. We will explain in more blogs thru the weekend. The persons will. For now…I sincerely want to learn about you. Ready? Go!

Hi Fruitycake. I too am an animal lover. Been around animals all my life. I have been married to my husband 41 years. He was not an animal person when we met. He is now a lover of animals and between us we have adopted/rescued 20 dogs and a pony. In our 20 years in Florida we have lost 13 of our beloveds. In between, I suffered through 2 bouts of cancer and a stroke. There were times I felt like giving up. I knew my husband had great supports but I kept going for my Beloveds. I am so glad I did. They depend on both of us. Those dark days really tried hard to tackle me but I fought back. I hope Girl Person can find peace and happiness in your new place, Italy. I know she has difficult days but the love we carry for our Beloved loves gone too soon, can lead us to brighter days. My love to all of you.

    HI Fruitycake,

I’ve loved animals since I was a child. I have grown up in Texas, first in Houston and 20 years ago we moved to Nacogdoches in East Texas. True culture shock. We’ve owned dogs, cats and horses. All have been rescues. Everyone staying until they crossed that Rainbow Bridge. I know what it is like to loose the loves of your life. Big Hugs to you /fruitycake
