There is a real dog sitting in a shelter today waiting for someone to notice them. When we started 2 Traveling Dogs in 2011, our focus was the same as it is now, to “Make Rescues The Breed Of Choice.” But the internet has changed. AI can create animals who never existed, real photographs can be stolen and old rescue stories can be shared as if they happened today. Sometimes it is becoming difficult to know what—or who—is real.
Meanwhile, the real dog is still waiting.
That is why we created This Is…Me.
This project really began long before it had a name. Peanut Butter Brickle and Digby Pancake were two rescue dogs who changed our lives and took us across America for seven years with our mission to Make Rescues The Breed Of Choice. They worked tirelessly to be the face of animal rescue.
Now Fruitycake, another rescue dog with a very large personality and an even louder bark, is helping us continue what they started.
We know there are thousands of other Brickles, Digbys and Fruitycakes waiting in shelters. Maybe even millions. They just have different names. Or maybe they are like Fruitycake and were given no name at all. That’s not acceptable to us.
WHAT IS THIS IS…ME?
It’s simple. We find real shelter and rescue animals who need to be seen, verify the animal and the legitimate organization responsible for them, and then tell you who that animal really is—not just their age, breed and intake number.
We want to know the thing that isn’t written on the kennel card. What makes them happy? What makes them ridiculous? What’s the one thing someone should know about them? What would they say if they could talk? We will talk for them, just like we have each weekday since 2011 faithfully.
Then we share that animal’s story through 2 Traveling Dogs and our social channels, where our content has reached more than 40 million people in a single day. Our goal is to put that reach behind animals who actually need it.
And we’re building toward something even bigger: individual This Is…Me pages with spoken stories and QR codes right on shelter kennels, so someone standing in front of a dog can scan the code, hear their story and go directly to their legitimate adoption information. This story, only told by us and narrated by us will be real. You have counted on us since 2011 and we will keep showing up as we always have.
