A Park Is Not A Luxury, But A Necessity

This is Fruitycake. Since I have been adopted, there are things that I feel are not negotiable. A home cooked meal.

A hike every day.

And falling asleep next to Brickle and waking up next to Brickle.

Some things I recognize are luxuries. Like when Gandma decides I need to wear an apron to help with the laundry.

Or when I decide to play with a toy and forget about it a minute later.

Things that are necessities are what you need. And when the world is as busy as it is now, and when the persons and animals are stressed and unhappy, there is something else I feel like we all need. Parks.

Parks may seem ordinary to some. But really, there is no ordinary park. An oasis in a city.

Or a corner playground.

Parks are a place that we can breathe without fear of traffic or pollution. A place that begs us to appreciate the day and the moment and the space. And that’s another reason why we picked our little house in Portofino, Italy. It is located in a park.

A big, big park called the Portofino Natural Regional Park.

I’m not sure how the perfect little house in the perfect little place waited for us so long. The sea. The mountains. The hiking trails. All. For us.

Being so new to traveling and having a family, I have to say my expectations were not very high. But our little house is high up in the mountains.

And it might be all uphill to get there. But now, seeing it and knowing about it, it doesn’t seem like a luxury. It’s a necessity.

All of us have things and places and people and animals that warm our heart. Without your heart beating, you won’t be here. So listen to it. Go where it tells you. It’s not a luxury to follow your heart. It’s a necessity.

Stay tuned to learn more about this area in Italy!
