Brickle, I Am Your Father

This is Peanut Butter Brickle. I know a lot about family. I know how you can be born and technically have a family.

How you can lose your family.

How you can grow your family. And have friends that are family.

Family is something that is defined for us before we are even born. But I have found that as we grow, and as we experience life, we make that definition. Sometimes it isn’t by choice though.

Recently, my persons wanted to see what breeds made up me and Fruitycake besides being rescues.

Part of that test also included results found if possible family members. And as other persons get tests done for their dog, the results are updated. Fruity’s relatives were found! He even has a cousin that lives in China!

And well. Apparently, my father and my brother were found. All we know is that they live in that Florida place. But I do know something else. No matter what the story is and how we ended up where we did, I am not mad at the persons who were in our lives back then. I am not upset. Because I ended up where I needed to be.

Also, I don’t know the story. Or the circumstances. It does not matter. Because I am loved. I am needed. I am me. No matter where I came from.

My father is quite the dapper fellow, isn’t he? The report says he is over 15 years old.

And that’s my brother with my father.

Do you see the resemblance? I do wonder what their lives have been like. But it sure looks like they have been loved. And I have too.

Maybe you are like me and your original, defined family didn’t want you or they couldn’t take care of you. Maybe you had that defined family, but you were mistreated. Or neglected. But who did you make your family? Who loved you?

Isn’t it special that they didn’t need a definition to love you?

I’m glad I found out who my father is. And my brother. I’m so glad they are ok.

But I’m glad my family now is ok. Because of me. Who is ok because of you? Don’t you know how much you are loved? Don’t you know who is also my family? You are. And I’m glad we found each other too.
