This is Deputy Digby Pancake. Do you ever feel like you’re in a fog? Sometimes it’s because there is fog and that can make you feel like you’re in a fog. That’s how it was in this Cedar Key, Florida place yesterday.
The fog was so thick that it made me hungry.
Well. Everything makes me hungry. But especially signs that say “no donuts” when you’re trying to walk in the fog. First of all. Who would have such a sign?
If you don’t have any donuts, it’s no use putting up a sign that says “no donuts” to make everyone feel like they want a donut.
And for those of us who didn’t know you had donuts in the first place, it’s especially bad news. Cause now you need a donut. And you wonder where the donuts are. And you worry. Because you can’t see anything thru the fog.
Fog, fog, fog. It was everywhere.
For once, I was thinking about more than pancakes. I was thinking how nice a donut would taste with a pancake. And bacon. And another donut. I knew where they weren’t. And yet, the mystery remained. No donuts there meant someone had them somewhere. And I was hoping after we finished our foggy walk that our breakfast at home would include some donuts. I hoped.
And as Girl Person made our breakfast, the fog outside finally started to clear. The sun started to come out. Annie had no idea what she was talking about.
And when Girl Person finished making our breakfast, I waited. I waited for the buffet that was about to be set before me.
And all of a sudden, even though it was a breakfast of eggies and crackers, it looked pretty good. Pretty good indeed. Even without donuts.
You see, we may feel like we are going thru a fog in life. We have no direction.
We can’t see the light.
Maybe you’ve been there so long that you forgot how you even got there. But eventually, it will pass. The fog will lift. And you might be in the most beautiful place you’ve ever seen.
That’s how I felt about breakfast. It may not have been what I thought I wanted. But it was what I needed.
I can’t say that I won’t want a donut later today. I probably will. And maybe I will have a chance at finding some, since we are leaving this Cedar Key, Florida place.
