This is Digby Pancake. What a beautiful day in this Florida place! The weather is a little cooler and the breeze is blowing here at High Springs.
When we get to a new place, it is always fun to explore and see new things. There is always, always, always something new to learn. There is always someone new to meet…from a safe distance right now.
And there is always something waiting to teach us how to be better just by their existence. Today, it’s the Dogwood Tree.
Now, to answer your first question, no, this tree doesn’t bark. But if it did, it would be a most respectful bark, if I do say so myself.
But even though the tree isn’t a dog, it still has a lot of good qualities about it!
The Dogwood Tree celebrates every season differently, and it reacts joyously to each one.
In spring, they explode with flowers that are pink or red shouting that winter is over.
In summer, their blossoms give way to light green leaves that provide welcome shade. And in autumn, that foliage turns a stunning deep red before falling, leaving a handsome skeleton with alligator skin-like bark in winter. Yes. It is still beautiful in winter.
And I wondered…why do we always wait for something to be over with, like a season, and wish for the next one. We should celebrate each one like the Dogwood Tree.
And that goes for every season of our life too.
I turned 11 years old this past week.
And as I think back to my days at the shelter jail.
And I think of my ride home.
I think of my days in a house, my days in the RV, I appreciate each one.
I don’t wonder what’s next. Because I know I’ll bloom when that season comes. I just can’t force it.
And just like Dogwood Trees prefer shade of taller trees, do we try to provide comfort and shade to others? Are our words positive and encouraging or do we simply try to take everyone’s glory?
It’s easy to forget that nature has something to teach us if we pay attention. Take a moment to look at a tree or learn about a bird today.
Think of what you are going thru in your own life, and reflect. I can guarantee you will find out what you need to know.
