Pillars Of Your Porch

This is Peanut Butter Brickle. Are you independent like me?

I like other individuals, however, I like to rely on myself more. I like myself. I trust myself. I’ve known myself longer than anyone else. And I kinda like myself a lot.

When you are as independent as I am, it’s easy to forget that you can’t do it all. It’s easy to forget that strength doesn’t come from trying to do it all. We can only be so strong.

But that’s a hard thing for me. So when we were taking a break on a hike and standing on a porch, I thought about that porch.

What was holding the porch up? One thing or many things? One pillar or many pillars?

It was true. Not one part of the porch made it strong. Even the house it was attached to couldn’t hold it up by itself. So why do we think we can hold ourselves up? Why can’t we realize we need others to gain strength?

I know this is something I need to work on. Especially when we travel, we do have to realize that we can do what we set our minds to. But, when we can, we have to learn to accept the kindness and graciousness of others to help us.

Not only will we be stronger, but we will be smarter.

So the next time you find yourself on a porch, think about what’s holding it up.

And look at those in your life who hold you up. Appreciate them and give your support to their porch too.
