You Can Lead A Fruitycake To Water…

This is Fruitycake. I have missed you the last few days, and I hope you missed me too. They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Maybe that’s why I have missed pizza so very much. Seems like it was a million years ago that J had a slice.

But you know what? I’m still here. And that’s even better than pizza.

You see, on Friday, I was feeling great! The sunshiney was out, Girl Person and I went on a hike, I had breakfast, and I even had a surprise visit from a neighbor and my new friend Tia the dog!

I was having so much fun, that not only did I lose track of time, but I lost track of my duties to keep myself hydrated. Watered. Just like our garden.

Now, there is no shortage of water around here. Seriously. We have a waterfall.

And yet, I still forgot to take care of me. I kept going and playing all day long. I played and barked at my ball, and I ran at the beach.

That’s when all of a sudden, it felt like I was out of my body. I couldn’t walk. I couldn’t bark. I couldn’t see. I knew it was getting dark and we had to walk up the path to get home. But I couldn’t move. That’s when Girl Person got Boy Person on the phone and told him he had to come down and help.

From what I’m told, Boy Person got so upset and worried he passed out. Yea. I’m serious. And we had to wait longer. And when he finally came for us, they got me up the path.

It was a very, very long weekend of trying to get back the fruit juice. I got dehydrated very bad. And I never want to feel like that again. We all learned from what happened. My persons too. They have to be my reminding committee to keep drinking how much I need to.

Fruit juice is a struggle to keep for me. I still am afraid of water and I don’t like getting wet. I don’t like to get my nose wet either. I still have old memories of water and none are good. Yes, I’ve turned it around. And I love my waterfall. But sometimes, fear can be bigger than a waterfall.

You can lead a Fruitycake to water. But you can’t make him drink. Just like me, you may have all the resources around you that are the ingredients to being happy and fulfilled and healthy. But unless you try to take advantage of those resources, they won’t help you. You have to take the first step to water. And then, you have to drink.

No one can help us better than we can help ourselves. I have to take it easy for a week or so. And obviously, so do my persons. After that, and especially after Girl Person’s surgery, changes will have to be made to live better help others better and to also protect our safety and wellbeing.

The water is there for us. And we plan to jump in! Now…it’s your turn!

What is around you that can help you today to be a better version of you?
