The magic of a cheeseburger in pie form? It is true. This is a recipe that although nostalgic is versatile and one that we were excited to pull out of our recipe box. But how could we make this healthier and dog friendly?
With the recipe below, you can even add some turkey bacon on top for a bacon cheeseburger version, or lettuce and tomato. (Just make sure to remove the leaves and stems due to toxicity for dogs. Plus, that wouldn’t taste good anyway!) You can use any ground, lean meat for this recipe. We choose to use lean, ground chicken to cut down on fat. It’s all about moderation! If you choose to use beef, you may want to cook before adding to the pie to drain grease.

2 tablespoons olive oil
1 pound organic, ground chicken or turkey breast

1 8 ounce can organic tomato sauce
2 tablespoon organic dried oregano
1/2 cup cubed or shredded organic mozzarella cheese
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.
Mix matzo crackers and olive oil. Line a pie pan with the cracker mixture. This is your crust!
Mix the meat, pepper, peas, egg, tomato sauce and oregano together. Spoon meat mixture on top of cracker crust. Top with cheese and bake for 30 minutes. Let cool completely. Serve!
For the persons, you will want to add salt and pepper, but you can leave that out for your dog. Unused portions may be refrigerated for up to three days or frozen for up to 2 months.
