This is Fruitycake. Do you live somewhere that you know others? Do you have neighbors? Friends? Family?
Do others know you by name? Isn’t that a wonderful thing?
Most of us take knowing others for granted. When you live somewhere for a little while, you get to know others. Even if for brief moments. When we camped all of the time, we didn’t get to know others well. But we even briefly had neighbors. That was nice.
Here in this Italy place, it’s been different. Not only do we live in a house that is alone, but we feel alone.
We see others, but we can’t talk to them very well. Just a little.
So when someone saw me yesterday and yelled, “Torta Di Frutta!”, I was so excited!!
We were in the parking lot at the bottom of our path. And someone there knew me from a little store in Portofino.
At that store, they always give me a piece of prosciutto. And they are very nice to us. Even though we can’t have a deep conversation. They help us with our Italian. And we help them with their English.
When you are the ones that are different somewhere, it’s so hard. You want to have friends and fit in. But even little things are a struggle when you can’t speak as well as you want. So when someone is kind to us and patient to us, it means the world. And calling me by name? It made my day.
I know him. And he knows me. It’s a nice feeling. Home is important to us all. Whether we have lived in a place all of our lives, or are the new ones, make an effort to be kind.
Patient. Welcoming. Considerate. Put yourself in someone else’s shoes. Or paws.

We are only two persons and one dog trying to make a difference in the way animal rescue is perceived. We want the world to see how much each animal’s life is worth. And we want the world to see how much the people who do the work in shelters and rescues are worth.
We have told each of our dog’s thoughts and stories every day since 2011. And we thank you for each day you’ve embraced us and our mission to Make Rescues The Breed Of Choice!! We can’t do it without you!!
