This is Fruitycake. Around here, it doesn’t take much for us to lose our confidence.
It doesn’t take much to make us nervous. And the appointment and trip to immigration this last week was all of our insecurities put on pieces of paper to be analyzed and judged.
When it was all said (what we could understand) and done, we found out we have until October 28 for another appointment and to show more progress on our plans. It’s lovely to have more time to show our work, but being in limbo again is hard too.
We were thrown off balance a little bit because it wasn’t what we expected. But a few days off from the physical work did the persons good. Once we got more shoes for them, they felt like they could keep walking the walk.
Girl Person has a hard time with confidence. Especially here. And yesterday, when some lady persons dressed very nice acted like they were simply disgusted at me and Girl Person for how we looked in our own neighborhood, she felt very bad.
She had been painting and working outside. She had walked over 8 miles. She had washed clothes and cleaned and she was tired. But they didn’t know that or care. They just wanted to make it known they were better. And Girl Person believed them. She was thrown off balance again.
She decided this morning to face her fears and just walk into town again. She told herself and me we belonged too. That one day we would match on the outside what we felt inside. But until then, we would not be deterred from enjoying the sea and the neighborhood as much as anyone else.
She went to say a prayer and focus on her positive thoughts by the waterfall, and well, she slipped. She fell in. She hurt her knee and her spirits again. Thrown off balance.
But you know? She changed and we still walked there. We still enjoyed the view.
And we just walked the walk. There have been many times we have wanted to give up and you believed in us. This is that time too.
We can all be thrown off balance. We can all doubt our worth. But look around. The birds and the trees and the sky and the grass don’t care about how you look. They care about who you are.
If you know who you are, value your own opinion and don’t be thrown off balance by someone else.

Hi friends — we need your help to keep our animal rescue blog going! 🐾
Since 2011, we’ve been sharing stories of hope, rescue, and second chances — all to shine a light on the animals who need us most. Our blog has always been free to read and full of heart, and we’ve loved building this community with you over the years.
But now, we’re reaching out because we need your support.
It costs about $1,000 a month to keep the blog running — covering internet, phone, equipment, and the time it takes to research, write, and share each animal’s story. So far this month, we’ve raised just $57.
If our blog has ever touched your heart, made you cheer for a rescue, or reminded you how much animals matter — please consider making a donation to help us keep going. Every dollar helps us continue to speak up for those who can’t speak for themselves.
