This is Peanut Butter Brickle. I’m so good at saying goodbye. I’ve had lots of practice doing that over the years. When you travel full time, like we have been, you make new friends. But you always have to move on. And say goodbye.
And that’s what I am doing today. I’m saying goodbye to a friend I have had for a few weeks while we have been staying at yet another house that isn’t ours.
I am saying goodbye to my friend, Louie. Our friend, Louie.
Louie wasn’t a big conversationalist. He was like Girl Person in that way. But everything he needed to say was done without words.
At least words we could not hear. But he said every day that he had a strong work ethic. He was always on the job until 5 pm, basking in the sun. And he clocked out at the same time every single day.
Louie worked hard. And he was very serious about his job. But he also was kind. Even though turtles weren’t supposed to be his friends in the river, he soaked up the sun with them. If they felt comfortable in his presence, that says it all.
Some friends may be meant to be in our physical presence for a short while. But all friends affect us for the rest of our lives in a good or not so good way. What kind of friend are we? It’s good to ask ourselves that question.
Goodbye, friend. Goodbye, Louie. I know that we didn’t have that much time in each others lives. And the fact is, I may never see you again.
But the other fact is, you will always live in my memory. You will always live in my heart. You gave me joy just by watching you live your best life. You gave me joy just by watching you thrive. You showed me that friendship can be great with an indepth conversation or in the quiet solitude of a lazy day without words.
Goodbye, Louie. I wish you a life filled with only good things. I wish you never to know what the persons of this world deal with or live with. I hope that their decisions don’t affect you.
