This is Girl Person. The last few weeks, I have been reevaluating many things in my life. Although I have help in running everything related to 2 Traveling Dogs, you may have already guessed that the majority of work and responsibilities do fall on me. I started this whole thing in 2011. And it’s been my choice to keep it going through the all the ups, downs, adoptions, deaths and now, my own health challenges.
So, yes, the decision of whether to keep this all going also is on me. If I am honest, and I always try to be, lately I’ve questioned whether it even matters that 2 Traveling Dogs continues. If I can mentally keep going, physically keep going. And if I stopped if anyone would care. I’ve wanted to honestly contemplate this. Selfishly, I don’t want to stop. Because I truly enjoy our audience who have become friends, and yep. I love dogs. And all animals. It’s enjoyable for me to write, post videos and most of all, I love helping others.
As I have been evaluating this complex time now, I’ve also been looking at statistics. Did you know we can reach 40 million people a day on social media? When we use our platforms to share animals from shelters, it’s that many more chances to save their lives. It’s that many more chances to help a shelter draw people to their virtual and physical doors to save more lives. It’s that many more chances to show that all animals are individuals, and perhaps, help people see the impact they can make too.
When we write the blog each day, we aim to show a dog can think, reason and help us live a better life. Perhaps that motivates someone to treat their dog better or to adopt, foster or donate.
When we share videos, pictures, stories and recipes we help people to take a break from stress, anxiety and pressures. This helps them to be better equipped emotionally to take care of their pets, to see how amazing they are, and to treat them better. And then, when others see how they treat their pets, it helps them to do the same.
The reasons for continuing 2 Traveling Dogs in Brickle and Digby’s legacy, and now Fruitycake is apparent to me. Yet, sometimes not to others. I realize our approach may not be as valued as other ways because it’s unconventional. But saving animals and supporting the ones who help them calls for unconventional approaches. And I won’t apologize for the 14 years I’ve tried to keep it all going. It’s been very hard for us to not go back to a regular job. It’s been very hard.
But as of now, I won’t give up. It’s not time. But it is time to make some changes which may include drastic ones. We will keep you updated and we thank you for being here. We do love you so very much. So much. You have proved to be true friends. You’ve loved our dogs and us too. And most importantly, you’ve loved YOUR animals.
The reasons we keep going out number the reasons to stop. Too many animals are in need, in danger and deserve to live. Won’t you stay with us a few more years?
