A Message From Girl Person On National Dog Moms Day

This is Girl Person. Usually, I’m not one to acknowledge holidays or dates on a calendar.  I like to celebrate every day! Because every day is special!

But today, I thought that I would make an exception.  I’m feeling kind of anxious about leaving Fruitycake for my surgery in the states. We have not been away from each other for even one night since we adopted him in January of 2022.

And I’m scared, sad and depressed already. Friday is coming quickly. And although I’m happy I get to see my family, and I know I have to have this surgery, the fact is, this is going to be hard for us all.

So on National Dog Moms Day, it makes me think about all the things we do for our dogs and how much they count on us! I’m in the midst of writing lists, compiling supplies for him and not even packing for myself.  I’m writing down our schedule, which includes at least three walks a day, home cooked meals and snacks. I’m writing down small things which are big things.  I have to sing for him to eat. He will only eat tuna at night. He will only eat eggs in the morning.  Keep his leash tight on the street because he will randomly try to dart into a car’s path.  Walk around puddles.  Keep a dog bag opened so that you have it ready.  I’ll stop now. But only because I need to get back to the list.

Am I singing my praises? Kind of. I do a lot for him.  I did a lot for Brickle and Digby.  I fell many times down a mountain keeping them from wild animals or bad people. Probably why I need surgery now! Would I do it all again? You bet I would.

And I bet you would never take for granted the privilege we have as dog moms to take care of our kids.  I’ve never used the term dog mom. But I am today. I’ll wear it with honor. And I hope you will too.

Thank you for all you do for your dogs and family.  I see you! I love you! You’re amazing! I truly mean that!

The best gift for me today would be for you to do something for yourself. And the second best gift? To join our Patreon page because if we can reach 500 members at $5 a month, I can make the blog available every day for every one! And we could keep going, and surgery wouldn’t have so much stress! Most importantly, after this surgery and when I get back, we can make the decisions we need to in order to change and improve how we we help animals. This is our top priority. www.patreon.com/2travelingdogsrescue

So happy National Dog Moms Day all you beautiful moms with dog hair on your clothes, in your food and all around! I love you all and I celebrate you today!
