This is Fruitycake. Yesterday, I had a sick day. I didn’t have to call in to work because I’m the boss. When I’m the boss, use my full name. Fruitycake The Raccoon. And I let myself have the day off.
When it comes to days off, my persons don’t know what that is right now. Because just the simplest things are work. So when I was sick yesterday and I wanted soup, Girl Person wasn’t feeling good herself. But she said there was nothing more important than me feeling better.
Because I am who keeps her going and even this whole project going! I didn’t know that.
But it made me feel even more like the boss. And so she said it was a good trade. I am her everything and so she gives me everything she has. Kind of like the crows here.
The crows don’t make themselves seen very often at all. In fact, you may call them stealthy. They are there watching. They are there talking. You can hear them but you can’t see them. Not even when they trade with you.
Our garden of squash and melons is reaching the end of its peak with the season.
So there are less and less gifts of vegetables. But the crows keep taking what squash is ready. But they don’t just take it. No. They leave payments. They trade a squash for a chestnut. And once they take the squash, they leave the chestnut there in its place.
I never knew that crows liked to trade. But trading can be a good thing, in fact. If we give of ourselves freely and without grudge, often, we get back more in return.

A chestnut is a valuable commodity here. And I suppose to them, the squash is. We agree. It is delicious, and I’m quite proud we were able to grow it out first year here. It’s only the first crop of many we will grow not just for us but for others who need it too. Why? Because giving of ourselves should be a way of life for all. We were given a chance at thai beautiful life. And even on our sick days, there is so much to be grateful for.
There is a trade for everything in this world.
So make good decisions and give without reservation and see what is left in its place for you.
