Once upon a time, in a lovely, lively and leafy Florida place campground, there lived a lizard. His name was Loco The Lounging Lizard.
It was a long name, but Loco was a long, lounging lizard!
Loco The Lounging Lizard spent his days doing what lizards do! He watched all the birds and animals around him, he soaked up the sunshiney, and he waited for food to come his way.
He had a very busy schedule in this lovely, lively and leafy Florida place campground!
But sometimes, Loco The Lounging Lizard just wanted to lounge! After all, he had to live up to his name. Work was good, but lounging was good too, and sometimes even better!
To have the best lounge, Loco knew he needed to find the best rock to lounge upon. All lizards who lounged needed the perfect rock! Not just any rock would do! So one day, Loco The Lounging Lizard made it his goal to find the most perfect rock! It had to be hard! The rock had to be warm! And the rock had to be long enough for Loco The Lounging Lizard!
Loco waited until the campground got quiet to look for the perfect rock. Loco knew that on the weekends, there were far too many people around. They might try to take his perfect rock! So he waited until all the people went back to work on a Monday. But his work had just begun!
Loco The Lounging Lizard knew there were plenty of rocks here at the campground. Big rocks. Small rocks. Medium rocks. Dry rocks. Wet rocks. But he needed the perfect rock!
And so he set out on an expedition! He packed his water and his backpack and his tent. This might take awhile!
For days and days, Loco The Lounging Lizard looked for the perfect rock. But he couldn’t find it! He got very tired! He really needed a place to lounge. And all of a sudden, when he thought that he couldn’t look anymore, he saw two dogs named Peanut Butter Brickle and Digby Pancake in campsite #164! They were lounging!
Brickle and Digby were lounging on big, comfy beds. Sleeping and lounging and soaking up the sun is what they were doing! They seemed so comfortable! They seemed so happy! Loco The Lounging Lizard wanted to be this comfortable and this happy!
Loco wondered if perhaps he didn’t need a perfect rock! Maybe he needed for Brickle and Digby to just scoot over!
Maybe that was where he needed to lounge! It was a wonderful thought for Loco. Such a perfect solution to his endless search for a perfect rock! He was tired!
So that afternoon in the lovely, lively and leafy Florida place campground, Loco decided that he would hang out in campsite 164 with Brickle and Digby.
They had quite a routine! They would hike in the morning, go to the beach, eat breakfast, then nap outside in the sunshiney.
And as they dreamt of peanut butter cookies and pancakes, Loco The Lounging Lizard started practicing his lounging skills. It had been quite awhile since he had used these skills. He stretched! He yawned! He could do this! He was ready to lounge!
First, he lounged next to Digby Pancake.
He was very quiet so as not to wake him up! He stretched out his long, lizard legs and soaked up the sunshiney! He was so comfortable that he decided to sing a song…very quietly.
I am Loco The Lounging Lizard
I love to lounge around
I have legs real long and I eat all day
And I’m known throughout this town!
A rock is good to sleep on
But a bed is sure good too
You can bet I’ll be in site 164
And I won’t be singing the blues!
Loco The Lounging Lizard was happy lounging next to Digby. But all of a sudden, Digby stretched and yawned and almost rolled over…right on top of Loco!
Oh no! This wasn’t going to work! So Loco decided to move over to Brickle’s bed! This had to be safer! But just as Loco was about to get comfortable, Brickle saw a bug flying towards them. Brickle liked to chase away bugs! And Loco knew that his usual lunch order would be no more. The kitchen ran out of the daily special. And well, lounging was good, but he needed to eat too. And this wasn’t going to work at all! Not at all!
Loco The Lounging Lizard knew he must keep looking for his rock. You see, Loco needed to have his own space.
Loco needed to have his own happy place! So he took a little nap high in a tree and packed his backpack again. He started to leave site 164 in this lovely, lively, and leafy Florida place campground when all of a sudden he saw it! A rock! But not just any rock! It was the perfect rock!
It seemed too good to be true! But it was truer than true! Right by Peanut Butter Brickle and Digby Pancake’s beds was his rock! It was hard. It was warm. And it was long! Long enough for Loco The Lounging Lizard!
You see, Loco knew that everyone deserved a special place to lounge and to rest and to be happy! And this was his happy place. He lounged on his rock and to him, it was the most beautiful, comfortable rock in the whole wide world! Or at least in this lovely, lively and leafy Florida place campground! From that day on, he didn’t compare his happy place to anyone else’s. He was content knowing that he was happy. And that was more than enough for him!
Loco The Lounging Lizard didn’t know how long Brickle and Digby would be in site 164.
But he did know that the lessons they taught him would stay with him for a very long time.
Just as long as his rock, so were his days. And his happy place remained on his perfect rock which was perfect only to him. And that’s what mattered most.
And they all lived and lounged happily ever after.
