This is Digby Pancake. When was the last time that you saw someone needing help? When was the last time you stopped and helped? Or did you just think that someone else would help? Let’s be honest.
Yesterday was a restful day at camp.
Girl Person and Boy Person were very tired from our last week of work. And the campsite here is in the middle of nowhere. Wherever nowhere is. But I guess everywhere is somewhere. Anyways, there isn’t much to do but what you need to. And if you don’t do it, it is so quiet that you think about doing it.
Girl Person went for a run to get herself motivated. I can tell you that running is not my motivation. Pancakes are. But to each her own. She was trying to feel better, but as she looked down at the sandy road, she saw a lonely, old bee in the road.
The bee wasn’t moving very well. And so she bent down to see if it needed help. She knew that if she left it, it would get ran over. And so she picked it up and brought it back to the RV and she tried to give it a drink in case it was thirsty.
She tried to let it rest and recover. They tried to take it back to a flower by the road. But it just didn’t have the energy to move. And so they thought the best thing that they could do was hold it and let it know it mattered. Hold it and let it know they cared. And so they did.
Life is so busy that we don’t think we have the time to help. Life is so busy that we don’t think we have the time to stop. Why do the most important things around us take second place to stressful things? Because we make them important.
And you probably don’t have the extra time. No one does. So if you don’t stop, who will?
Thinking that someone else will do what we should is not right. We are all responsible in those moments to do what we can. It is not going above and beyond. It is simply doing what is right. We always do what is in our hearts, for good or bad
The bee in the road may not matter to most. But what matters to most? Money, fame, you name it. Is the bee less important? To some, yes.
But please don’t let it be you.
