Peanut Butter Brickle was born in 2009. Transferred from a kill shelter in Alabama to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, Florida, Brickle had a ruff beginning. We do not know his full story because he prefers to remain mysterious. We do know that he arrived in Tampa, Florida with his brother and sister as mere youngins. (Yes, we are relating this in our southern accent).
Brickle is a catahoula mix, but all you need to know is that he is a rescue. Of course, that is the most beautiful breed! Peanut Butter Brickle is thus named because of his resemblence to the yummy ice cream flavor. Not because he is sweet. We call him the Sheriff because he loves to police other dogs around at the dog park and his brother from another mother, Digby Pancake.
Digby Pancake came into our lives about 6 months after we adopted Brickle. Digby was also in a then kill-shelter in Fernandina Beach, Florida, and also transferred to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. Digby was also born in 2009. He was most likely a hunting dog, afraid of gunshots and loud noises. He wasn’t very useful to his previous “owners”. He found himself unwanted and discarded. But not for long. After seeing him in the shelter, we knew he would make a wonderful brother for Brickle who was a bit lonely. Digby Pancake got his name from his Boy Person who had a loving dog named Digby growing up. Pancake? Well, when we first saw Digby at the shelter, the volunteers told us that since he had been neutered late, he may always have those pancakes…yeah, seriously. But we also found out that his favorite food was pancakes. So Digby Pancake was totally appropriate! Digby is a full blooded foxhound, a full blooded rescue sweetie! And every Sheriff needs a Deputy. Deputy Digby Pancake.
These boys changed our lives forever, and many others too. We hope you will continue to follow their journey everyday.

I, too, have two rescues – a huge Greyhound (Bubba) that my beloved daughter rescued shortly before she died and little Collie mix (Gibby) that my granddaughter rescued and kindly allowed me to adopt when she went away to college to become a registered nurse. These two doggies go with me everywhere, are never left alone, and dearly love to go “bye bye” in the car. They rule the roost and give so much love that it warms my old bones and heals my aches and pains that seem to accompany old age. Thanks again, a Faithful Facebook Follower.
