This is Peanut Butter Brickle. What’s the best part of the day? I like the morning. I like how I don’t know what is going to happen. I like how anything is possible.
Digby’s favorite part of the day is any part with food in it. And that’s all day, every day for him.
We all have parts of the day that we look forward to. Sometimes those things are overshadowed with problems or dilemmas. Sometimes those favorite parts of our day are interrupted. But that’s not always a bad thing.
You see, we were out taking a hike. And Digby’s stomach was growling. So was Boy Person’s. So was mine. And we were all eager to get home to eat breakfast. Except Boy Person said he had to pull over and go back and get something in the woods.
He had found a treasure. A very unexpected one at that. He and Girl Person like to look for mushrooms. And they were looking for a certain kind. But instead, he found the biggest mushroom treasure of his life so far. A mushroom called Chicken Of The Woods!
Two very large and plentiful patches of mushrooms! So big that he couldn’t even carry it all.
Now, I can’t say that Digby and I were as excited about this find. But their excitement made us happy.
The breakfast that we were looking forward to seemed secondary.
The favorite parts of our day were being overshadowed by another, unexpected treasure. And that was more than ok.
Because if we don’t leave our hearts open to the good things that can come up, and only focus on the same, expected ones, we won’t appreciate the different, unexpected ones!
Like chickens in the woods.
The magical part about life is that we never know what can happen. Some of our life is still unwritten. Turn the page and see what you can find!
