Table Phones?

This is Peanut Butter Brickle.  We take a lot of conveniences for granted, don’t we?

We can call anyone when we want to.  We can look any information up when we want to.  Well, you persons can.  They haven’t made a phone or a computer thing for dogs.  Yet.

Traveling though has a way of making you remember how things used to be.

As we were driving from that New Mexico place to that Texas place yesterday, we saw an old sign.  An old sign for a restaurant.  And it said that it had “table phones”.  Like it was some sort of something awesome.

Girl Person thought that she read the sign wrong.  But when she looked up what it was, she found out about these so-called table phones.  Years ago, when people were traveling, they didn’t have any way to get in touch with the ones back home.  So a restaurant had a way that they could go inside and pull up messages. What they had to do was come up with a number. Then, they would tell their family and friends the number. Then they had to find a restaurant with the table phones. And they entered that number.  Kind of like texting. After that, they could see if they had any messages from anyone. Phew. This was all very confusing to me.  How did they get the messages? How did they know where the phones were?  What if they couldn’t make it to a table phone?  Oh, but the world went on!

I have a feeling that people would say that these were the good old days.  But it seems just as complicated to me as things that distract persons now.  Just in a different way.  The truth is, if we want to be distracted, we can be distracted.

If we don’t want to pay attention to what and who are around us, it is because we don’t feel that they are important.  Not because of so called conveniences.  We use our time just the way we want to.

Travel has a way of stopping you in your tracks and making you think.  Or in our case, we keep going, but we still think.  There is always something new to learn about out there.  And if you let unimportant things distract you…even the table phones…you will never know what you’re missing.

We had to leave our campsite today unexpectedly.  So we are not sure where we are going.  We could use the good vibes! Stay tuned!
