The Road You’re On

This is Peanut Butter Brickle. Life is all about choices, isn’t it?

Whether to get that crunchy peanut butter. Or the smooth kind. Maybe you prefer one over the other.

But sometimes, it is easy to question yourself. It is easy to wonder if you know what you really like, or what you really want to do. You think you know. But then you don’t do it.

That was us yesterday. We had a long drive from Winslow, Arizona to Albuquerque, New Mexico.

We needed to stop somewhere to use the bathroom and to walk around. But every rest area we got to was closed. So we decided to stop at a park that we knew of and take a break.

The problem was, we needed fuel to keep going. But we had been in the car too long and the persons were really concerned for us. So they decided to go to the park first and get fuel second.

Except we didn’t get the fuel, because we went in a different direction. Then, there was a big traffic jam. There was a washed out road.

And then, the light came on that told us, uh oh. You are out of fuel. And it was too late. Girl Person looked up directions to the nearest place to get fuel. And it was 30 miles away. We just knew there was no way we could make it. And the persons were upset. The persons knew they should have got fuel first. And the road we were on was leading us to being broke down.

But somehow, holding our breath must have worked. Because somehow, we made it. We couldn’t believe it.

Then, while Boy Person fueled up, Girl Person went inside the store and she was excited to see some potato chips she really wanted. And when she opened the bag, she exclaimed that they literally were the very best potato chips she had ever had. In her life! New Mexico was actually on her good side now!

And then I knew. If our road had not led us to this particular store, we would have never seen the look on Girl Person’s face when she had the best ever potato chips she had ever had.

If we would have got fuel at the beginning, we wouldn’t have needed to stop there. So was it worth the stress? Holding our breath? The adventure? I wonder. And we all should.

Because you may think you are going down a wrong road. It’s sure not the road you thought you would be on.

You may wonder how you got there. You may wonder what you did wrong. But have you thought about the fact it may be actually leading you to something right? We can’t live in the past, whether that was five minutes ago or fifty years ago.
