You Are What You Eat?

This is Deputy Digby Pancake.  I learn something new every day.  But when it comes to learning about food, I am all ears and nose and mouth and tail.  And everything.

I didn’t expect to learn so much about food this week on a hike. We went to a boardwalk and it was raining.  A lot.  But we didn’t really mind. You can either sit and wonder what’s happening when it’s raining from the inside of the RV. Or you can go out and do something. We choose to do something. And so did the birds. They were having a real good time trying to find their breakfast.

Girl Person stopped in her tracks when she saw a bird called the Roseate Spoonbill.

It doesn’t matter where we go, or what we do.  There is always something that will makes us stop and think.  There is always something like the Roseate Spoonbill that lets us know the world is much more than what we try to make it. The news, work, rushing…who cares about that?

Girl Person told me that this bird is the color of pink because of what it eats.  And it eats a lot.

The Roseate Spoonbill sweeps its open bill from side to side in the water to sift up food like small fish, shrimp, mollusks, snails and insects. It has receptors in its bill that help it feel its prey.  Some of the food it eats feed on algae that give the spoonbill’s feathers their rosy pink color. And I got to thinking.  Has my color changed over the years because I have eaten so…many…pancakes?

And the more pancakes I eat, the more I look like one! I could be a bird like the Roseate Spoonbill!  I could be the Pancake Spoonbill!

Sheriff Peanut Butter Brickle said he already knew about this and that if he is what he eats, he is the color of peanut butter cookies and ice cream.

So my question to you is if you are what you eat, what pretty color would you be?  Would you be as pretty as the Roseate Spoonbill?

Life is beautiful. Although persons try their hardest, whether they know it or not, to make it less beautiful, they will never win.  Because things like the Roseate Spoonbill shows the true beauty of life.  That life is precious. Life is delicious. Life is love.

Our true colors are shown by what we take into our hearts, our minds, our hearts.  You can’t take in negative things and put out positive things.

For me, I choose to be the color of sweet, fluffy, happy pancakes.  What about you?   Take a moment today and see what’s on your heart’s menu.
