The Mask

This is Deputy Digby Pancake. It was quite a journey when we moved a few spaces down at camp last week. So many asked us why we didn’t just stay in that spot 164.

Or they asked us why we can’t stay in this spot forever now. Well, listen. If I could go to an all you can eat pancake buffet every day, I would. But sometimes we don’t get to do what we want to do, now do we? So yeah. That’s why.

But one of the good things about moving back to site 166 is that we get to hang out with the Scarlet Pimpernel again. You know, the cardinal red bird with an attitude.

We hated to leave Loco The Lounging Lizard in site 164. We grew fond of his lounging skills.

Plus, we had so many bird friends there! And we wondered if they would find us in site 166. Some have, and some haven’t yet. But the old timers never left like Scarlet Pimpernel. However…we didn’t recognize him at first. Could have been the mask he was wearing.

We thought that he was a new kind of bird we hadn’t seen before. But Girl Person explained that sometimes birds lose their feathers and it’s called molting. She said molting is when a bird sheds old, worn feathers to get new ones. She said some birds molt only once a year but some do it a few times a year.

Some may say that the Scarlet Pimpernel doesn’t look as good with his mask. But I say if he likes his style, who is to judge?

Brickle says it’s good to change your style. He said change always is a good thing. You have to appreciate the fashion of changing and make it fun. That is always in style.

The Scarlet Pimpernel may look like he’s wearing a mask. But he’s not trying to hide anything. Although I’m sure a mask would be a good thing to wear around the hawk. His mask is one of change which will make him even more beautiful soon. If he doesn’t molt and wear his mask, the new look can’t happen.

It’s no secret that change happens whether we want it to or not. The good thing about change is that it can change you for the good. It can change you for the better. And although you can’t change what happened, eventually, maybe you can learn from it. It may take some time to grow thru it. But the results will be beautiful. So put on your mask and change. If the Scarlet Pimpernel can have confidence with his mask, we believe in you too.

This week we have a daily, uplifting series sponsored by Mongoose Bikes!

You know we are about making a difference for animals. But this year, we also wanted to find ways to help people too. Why? The world is a better place when we show kindness and compassion to all. Love goes around and is passed around in many ways. It is people who will make a difference for animals. So it’s our responsibility to not turn away when we see a way we can help.

Think about a time when you may have been down or depressed. Maybe you went thru hard financial times, or were a victim of a crime. Maybe you found yourself at your lowest point. Many want to make a better life for themselves, but see no starting point. Even if they want to get a job to support their families or pets, they may have no transportation. You know that old bike sitting in your garage?

Can you donate it to help someone back on the road to a better life? We headed to a local bike shop turning old bikes into beautiful treasures for those without homes!

Mongoose generously has supported this project! Stay tuned for our journey of learning ways we could help those without homes in our area and how you can too. We want you today to look up organizations in YOUR area and tell us what simple ways we can help by donating to people in need! Don’t miss our Instagram post today and see our ride to the bike shop where we donated our used bikes!

Great advice will look in my garage to see if I have anything to donate. Love the red cardinal. Always been my favorite bird since I was a child.
