Nothing Compares To You

This is Sheriff Peanut Butter Brickle.  Oh, what a week it has been in this South Carolina place.  And it isn’t even over yet.  So far, we have had to move campsites twice and we move again on Saturday.  Then, we are here until Monday when we are back on the road again to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Yeah, moving gets hard after awhile.  But I ain’t complaining.  Just telling you like it is.

One of the best parts of moving though is that when we get to a new place, we have many chances to make new friends.  And if my new friends annoy me? Well, I am off again to a new place. New arrests are to be made.

I like the friends I have here in this campground deal.  We go to a dog park almost every night here where we can run around and swim.  Actually, most of the time I just like to stand there.

Seems like all the freedom gets me wondering what in the world I should do first.  So then, I just stand there and watch all of the activity to figure out which one suits me best.  And by the time I figure it out, it is time to leave because Deputy Digby has started humping someone.  Then we do it all again the next day.

I guess that I am a bit of a perfectionist.  I want to make sure that I make the right decisions, and then when I finally make one, I start comparing myself to the others.  Were their activities planned out better? Were their activities better carried out? Did they get more accomplished at the dog park than I did?  Yes, I start comparing myself to others.

If you are a perfectionist like me, because I am perfect, maybe you think on what a busy week you had, and then feel bad about the stuff that you didn’t accomplish.  You compare what you do to what others do.  Girl Person was feeling bad this week. She said that it seemed like she was getting less and less done in her days. She said she felt like she was all over the map. Because she is all over the map.

She told Boy Person that other people seemed to have it all together. She said that she felt like she was getting nothing done.  Boy Person just looked at her like he sometimes does and asked her how many people she knew that had to move their whole house every few days?  He reminded her how much work it was.  He reminded her about the sacrifices they had made to live this kind of life.

And he told her that she was doing a pretty good job of getting stuff done. The important stuff. And I knew this to be true. Because you see, no one ever sees the “behind the scenes” in the workings of someone else’s day.  They only see the finished, glossy product.  And if we start to compare the two, you know, apples to oranges, it is no comparison at all.  Because nothing compares to me.  And nothing compares to you.  That’s just the truth.

So when you start feeling blue that the week has gone by with only half of your list crossed out, remember this.  You lived up to your standards. You truly did. Because we all  will accomplish what is in our hearts to do if we try.  Trying is even more than someone else may be able to do.  And that alone says it all. So next time you worry about all of the perfection that is lacking from your day? From your life?  Think.  Think about it.

You have tomorrow if you are fortunate, and next week as well to keep trying. To keep accomplishing.  And that. Is. Perfect. But not as perfect as me.

You just keep on going. I’m impressed that you can move so much and still have all things going. I love your stories and journey.
