That’s Shady

This is Deputy Digby Pancake. There are a lot of trees here in this South Carolina place. And that’s a good thing because there are a lot of hot rays from the sun trying to get us. I wish that we could stay under the trees all day. But we aren’t the Oak Ridge Boys.

When it’s really hot outside, you have a lot of time to relax in the shade and do some person watching. I see lots of kids running around. Probably some of them are named Bobbie Sue.

I also see big persons on metal sticks with rubber wheels on them that spin round and round. I would like to chase those things called bicycles, but alas, I am too hot and the shade is more my style right now. Also. I don’t think that they are going to IHop.

When you are in Charleston, South Carolina, and you don’t have energy to do much but sit in the shade and think about chasing stuff that you probably won’t chase, you really learn to enjoy watching the persons do stuff. I think that we can learn a lot just by watching. Many of the persons seem to be enjoying the day riding around on their boat things or running around in circles. Many of the persons walk their furkids or push their baby persons. And I have to say. It is nice to see all of this and know that persons can still do things other than with their phones. But you know what I think that they are still missing besides having enough pancakes for a picnic? They still all seem to be doing their own thing, and even if they run right into each other on the trails, they still don’t say hello. Where did this get lost with persons? That my friends is simply shady.

In the South, you expect some southern hospitality. Some sweet words. Some “bless your hearts” mixed in to every sentence. But if persons can’t even say hello to someone a few feet from them, what is that about? You see, dogs have it pretty much figured out. We want to say hello to everyone. It is always the persons pulling us back. Yes, I know some dogs would rather not speak, so I get that. But for the most part, we wear our hearts on our sleeves if we had shirts on. But you already know I don’t even wear pants.

Us dogs find it common courtesy to say a greeting. And that should go for you persons whether you are in the south or not. We don’t even know where we are. It doesn’t matter. We can pretend to care about others and be nice, but are we really nice? Are we really? We say we love others, but do we really? Do our actions match?

It is easy in life to get caught up in things that make everyone rush around. It is easy to let the hard parts of our day carry into the day after. We all need some shade to regroup and relax and make us refreshed. We can’t be nice and happy all wore out. What if that person you pass by needed a smile or a “hello” to turn their life around? Yes, I am serious. Feeling alone and invisible in this world is the worst feeling ever. You can be the difference. You can make that difference.

So don’t be shady, instead find some shade to make you a better person. Say more hellos, be nicer than you were yesterday. And if you want to join the Oak Ridge Boys, so be it.
