This is Sheriff Peanut Butter.  Well, they say that absence makes the heart grow fonder.  Well then, I bet since we had not saw our Gandma and Gandpa for over a year, they couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw us this past weekend, or how much my handsome had grown.

I wasn’t too excited about leaving Boy Person and the Big Blue Treat Wagon RV for a whole weekend, but Girl Person said that she bet when the weekend came to a close that we would all appreciate each other just a little bit more.  And I suppose that is true.  But it is hard to concentrate when Gandma is feeding you snacks round the clock, Gandpa is going to the store to make sure you have eggies and matzo, and Girl Person gets to take a bubble bath.  Yep.  This was a what we needed.

In some ways, it is always hard to go back “home” for us to the orange grove and to see Granny Person’s house there and our old yellow house with new people in it. But the more time passes, the more we know that despite all the roads we traveled on, despite all the places we visited, there are only so many roads.  There are only so many places.  And our world is pretty small.  Our time is pretty short.  When we were here, we loved it.  And we still love it.  But things change, time marches on, and you realize that it is time to move on in our minds.  Because we have a new life and maybe a new house to fill with new memories.

And yet, even though we know this, we seem to fill our days with so many things that don’t matter at all like regret or the Depression Monster or the Questioning Monster.  Yep, there is a new one.  And so when we came back to the orange grove, the same orange grove… it gave us a little pep in our step.  A little reflection.  A little more energy to figure out our next steps, and where our next home will be. Who knew an orange grove could do that?

Sometimes, if you want to move on, you have to admit something.  You may have to go back to where you started from. You have to look deep within yourself and listen.  Digby finds it hard to listen above his stomach, but I get it.  You would think that traveling across and around and thru the country would make you forget where you came from, or that it didn’t matter.  But it does matter for us.  Because this is where we grew.  And if we are to continue to grow in new directions, maybe our path led us back here for the weekend.  It was just what we needed.

So if you are trying to go down new paths like us, it may be time to turn around.  If just for a moment.  Ask directions if you have to.

When we got back to Boy Person last night and the Big Blue Treat Wagon, it sure was sweet.  We miss Gandpa and Gandma though.  But as we figure out what to do here in the next few weeks, we know they are close.  As close as our new start.  Here we go! Are you with us? You are just what we need too.
