This is Deputy Digby Pancake.  Today is a new week, a new start, a new menu.  At least in my book.  If I knew how to read, my book would have all kinds of menus.  And you can guarantee, and I will guarantee, that every day would include pancakes.  And also paella.  I just found out about paella.

This weekend, we took a walk at one of our favorite spots in the world, the beach in Bodega Bay, California.  And as usual, Sheriff Brickle lost his mind, found his happy, and I  became attacked.  Again.  In case you missed one of our live videos, here it is.

Well, as you can see, we both worked up quite an appetite.  Honestly, I work up an appetite going from the bed to the floor to the chair to the bed again.  And as we were leaving the beach, a nice man person with a furkid asked Girl Person if we were the 2 Traveling Dogs.  Girl Person told him that we were, and the man person said he had a treat for us.  Well, I know that word better than I know my last name of pancake.  And so Sheriff Brickle and I ran up to his car.  He opened his trunk and I was expecting to see the usual dog bone, or boring nonsense of that type.  Instead, he took out a brand new take out carton he had just picked up at a fancy schmancy restaurant with some fancy, schmancy paella in it, folks.  You heard me.  Paella.

Now, I am not the international traveler yet, but I know about Spanish paella.  You see, you take rice and all kinds of stuff and you bake it and you eat it and it is delicious, I tell you.  Delicious.  And for some random, nice man person to offer us some fancy, schmancy paella out of his car trunk? Well, that was interesting.  And that was delightful.   It made me want to dance a spanish dance if I knew how to do such a thing.

Girl Person usually does not let us get treats from strangers, but she saw the take out bag, and it was brand new.  As Girl Person talked to him, he took out a fork, and opened the container and started feeding it to me and Sheriff Brickle!  He liked us so much that he shared his paella not only with us, but his dog got some too. There I was, just a normal foxhound on a beach in California, and I was getting fed paella with a fork on the beach.  You heard me.  Paella on the beach.  This doesn’t happen every day I hear.  But in our view, it was going to happen every day now.  So after this point, every car we saw, every man person we saw, well, we figured that they had paella.  And so we tried to drag Girl Person to every car to find more paella.  We knew it was in there.  And we knew we had to find it.  And so yes.  If we see you in your car, we will try to get your paella too.

Girl Person tried to explain to us that she could make us some paella if we stopped trying to jump in people’s cars to get paella.  That worked.  For a minute.  Girl Person thinks you might want the recipe for her Paella for Pups

Ingredients

1 cup organic brown rice
2½ cups water or unsalted chicken broth
½ teaspoon organic coconut oil
1 tablespoon organic olive oil
1 cup frozen organic green peas
½ cup sliced organic zucchini
5 ounces of any lean animal meat (about 1 burger patty’s worth)
1 tablespoon canned, organic black beans

Directions

In a large saucepan, bring the rice to a boil in the water or chicken broth.
Add the oils.
Cover and simmer for about 35 minutes.
Then add the peas, zucchini, and meat.
Continue cooking for another 10 to 15 minutes.
Top with the black beans.

Let cool completely before serving.

It is not my imagination folks that paella grows in car trunks.  I know that pancakes grow everywhere, and maybe one day soon when we find out where we can settle down, we can grow our pancakes and paella.  I hope for that soon.  Very soon.  Otherwise, we have a lot of car trunks to search.
