A Bad Day Only Lasts 24 Hours

This is Deputy Digby Pancake.  If there was ever a day that the Sheriff needed to take off…well, it is today.  And my idea of work is working on a nap.  And I do an excellent job at that if I say so myself.  I would say it myself, but I need to go back to my nap.

Where is the moment when we needed the most?
You kick up the leaves, and the magic is lost
They tell me your blue sky’s faded to gray
They tell me your passion’s gone away
And I don’t need no carrying on

If you have ever had “one of those days” as Granny Person used to say, you understand that everything that can go wrong on that day will go wrong.

I guess Sheriff Brickle didn’t like going to the Vet Person yesterday. He didn’t like getting weighed…he worries about his slim figure and doesn’t want his driver’s license to reflect those extra five pounds he is always worried about losing.  He also did not like the fact that he was tricked into going by taking a leisurely drive thru Bodega Bay.  The Sheriff and I have come to realize that when we are put in the car by ourselves and not with each other, nothing good can come of that.  And nothing good came from the rest of the day either.  Other than the day was over.

As usual, it was time to move campsites.  And as usual, the persons were tired of putting everything away to move, unhooking everything and then setting everything back up.  If you do something so much, sometimes you don’t pay attention to what you are doing.  At least with Girl Person, she starts daydreaming about something she has to do or to get done.  And so when Boy Person was backing in to our new campsite…about five ones over, she didn’t pay attention that there was a big stump hidden in the seagrass behind him.  She was looking into the sky wondering how many birds there were in Bodega Bay and bam!  It wasn’t a bird that she had to worry about.

Cause you had a bad day
You’re taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around

As Boy Person got out and surveyed the damage, which wasn’t a big deal by the way, Girl Person got to setting up our campsite outside again.  She puts down the big rug first of all because the Sheriff has a panic attack if he can’t sit outside immediately.

She put the water bowl down, she put down the door rug, and she put the bicycles on the ground to block anyone from walking into our campsite and disturbing the Sheriff. She thought it looked good, and although she wouldn’t win any awards from any interior decorators, or outdoor ones either, it was good to her.  But I guess not to Boy Person.

As he went to move the Jeep, he also meant to block our campsite from trespassers and pulled up close to the Big Blue Treat Wagon RV.  Girl Person was paying attention this time and yelled to him to stop, but it was too late and that is when he messed up her outdoor decoration and ran over one of the bikes.  And her shoes.

Well, about this time, Girl Person started laughing, Boy Person surveyed the damage again, and they just stood there.  Girl Person told him one point for him, one point for her.  And the Sheriff was keeping score.  He told me that he was going to write in his report that on the days he has to go to the vet that nothing good will happen that day.  And I agreed.  So since we were having such a bad day, Girl Person decided that she was going to have to take a little drive to clear her head.

You work at a smile, and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
The camera don’t lie

She knew that Gandma had sent us some mail “General Delivery” to the post office here.  And she went to go get it.  When she got there, the post office had decided that since this was a bad day that they would keep with the flow and send the mail back to Gandma because they didn’t feel it was addressed properly.  One point for Girl Person.  One point for Boy Person.  One point for everyone.  Even as Deputy, I had about had enough of this day.  Do I ever have a bad day?  No not generally.  Not much can mess up dreams of pancakes.  Unless you get scrambled eggs for breakfast.

But, after I ate my breakfast at lunchtime because breakfast was late from all of the commotion, I put things into my Digby perspective. Was it truly a bad day if you can laugh about the “bad” parts at the end of it? Probably not. For Sheriff Brickle, he does need a day off today because his meanness is more than usual, and rest will do him some good. For me, there is always an excuse to rest. And recoup. And regroup. And forget about the bad parts. Because today is today. And it can be good if we learn from the bad of yesterday and move on. Probably to a new campsite if you are us.

By the way, thank you to everyone who helped us decide what our next adventure is going to be. We have an announcement tomorrow. So don’t miss it.

Oh, Family, I’m sorry you had such a bad day, but you were able to laugh about it and make us all happy as well!! I hope the bike and shoes are okay! And poor Sheriff, he’s as spent as you were when you went to that Vet Person as well, so good covering, Digby!! And I already subscribe (of course!) to your youtube channel, and I love all of your videos, they are so informative, you always pick the best little jams and it’s more time to see both of your precious faces, which is never enough!!! So my suggestion is just keep doing what you’re doing! Love it! “Tomorrow is another day!”-Scarlett O’Hara Love you all, I can’t wait to hear your decision tomorrow!!! Have a wonderful evening!!! xoxoxo <3 <3 <3 <3
